Position Summary
Susie King Taylor Community School is seeking an exceptional Instructional Literacy Coach who is passionate about ensuring every scholar becomes a confident, proficient reader. The Literacy Coach serves as a non-evaluative instructional leader who partners with teachers, administrators, and support staff to strengthen Tier I literacy instruction, implement evidence-based reading practices, and improve student achievement across the school.
The successful candidate is an accomplished educator with deep knowledge of the Science of Reading, structured literacy, dyslexia-informed instruction, and effective coaching practices. This individual will build teacher capacity through modeling, co-planning, data analysis, professional learning, and ongoing instructional support.
Essential ResponsibilitiesInstructional Leadership
- Provide job-embedded coaching to teachers through classroom modeling, co-teaching, observation, feedback, and reflective conversations.
- Support implementation of evidence-based literacy instruction aligned with the Science of Reading and Georgia literacy initiatives.
- Assist teachers in strengthening instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, language comprehension, and reading comprehension.
- Collaborate with school leadership to ensure instructional consistency and high expectations across classrooms.
- Promote equitable instructional practices that accelerate learning for all scholars.
Professional Learning
- Design and facilitate engaging professional learning aligned with school improvement goals.
- Support new teachers through mentoring and instructional coaching.
- Lead Professional Learning Community (PLC) discussions focused on literacy best practices.
- Share current literacy research and instructional resources with faculty.
Data and Assessment
- Assist teachers in administering and analyzing literacy assessments.
- Facilitate data meetings to identify instructional strengths, learning gaps, and targeted interventions.
- Monitor implementation of literacy initiatives and evaluate their effectiveness through multiple measures.
- Support MTSS processes by using assessment data to guide instructional decisions.
Curriculum and Instruction
- Collaborate with teachers to develop rigorous, standards-aligned literacy instruction.
- Support implementation of high-quality instructional materials and evidence-based intervention programs.
- Assist with lesson planning that incorporates differentiated instruction and culturally responsive teaching practices.
- Ensure instructional practices align with Georgia Standards of Excellence and school improvement priorities.
School Leadership
- Serve as a member of the school's instructional leadership team.
- Partner with administrators to support schoolwide literacy goals.
- Foster a collaborative culture centered on continuous improvement and professional growth.
- Build positive relationships with teachers, families, and community stakeholders to promote literacy development.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) Professional Teaching Certificate.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of successful classroom teaching experience, with demonstrated effectiveness in literacy instruction.
- Demonstrated expertise in the Science of Reading and structured literacy practices.
- Training in dyslexia identification, intervention, and evidence-based instructional strategies.
- Strong knowledge of literacy assessment, curriculum, instructional best practices, and differentiated instruction.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, coaching, and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Reading Endorsement, Reading Specialist Certification, Literacy Specialist Certification, or comparable advanced credential.
- Teaching Support and Coaching Endorsement.
- Experience serving as a literacy coach, instructional coach, reading specialist, or teacher leader.
- Experience facilitating adult professional learning.
- Knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Response to Intervention (RTI), and progress monitoring.
- Experience working in a Title I school and with diverse student populations.
