Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Machinist to join our team full time in Portage, WI. Portage Casting & Mold, Inc. is a contract manufacturing tooling company specialized in tool creation for the Thermoformed Plastics industry. In this role, you will operate, set up, maintain CNC machines and general shop machines —including lathes and milling machines. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with advanced machining tools and contribute to innovative manufacturing projects in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Set up CNC milling machines, ensuring proper tooling, calibration, and alignment for each job.
- Program CNC machines using G-code and CAM software to produce precise components according to technical drawings and specifications.
- Operate manual machining tools like grinders, calipers, micrometers, gauges, hand tools, and power tools for fine adjustments and quality control.
- Perform quality inspections on machined parts, ensuring they meet strict tolerances through CNC quality inspection techniques.
- Maintain equipment by performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting issues promptly to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with team members on assembly tasks when necessary to ensure seamless production flow.
Experience
- Experience operating CNC machinery such as CNC mills with Heidenhain, Fidia, HAAS, Fanuc or similar controls.
- Knowledge of mechanical blueprint reading and interpretation for complex parts.
- Familiarity with machining tools including grinders, boring bars, cutters, and tooling setup procedures.
- Background in CNC programming including G-code and CAM programming software like Tebis or NX or CAD systems.
- Experience with manual machining techniques such as lathe, mill and grinding work.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments like micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines for quality control purposes.
- Basic math skills necessary for calculations related to measurements, tolerances, and machine setup adjustments.
