Duties
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures by preparing equipment and maintaining a sterile environment using aseptic techniques.
- Perform animal restraint and handling for various species, including dogs, cats, and equines, ensuring safety for both animals and staff.
- Conduct laboratory tests such as blood work, urinalysis, and other diagnostics to support accurate diagnoses.
- Take and develop X-ray images while ensuring proper animal positioning and radiation safety protocols are followed.
- Support dental procedures by understanding dental terminology, assisting with pet grooming, cleaning teeth, and applying pet care best practices.
- Monitor animal physiology during recovery from anesthesia or critical care treatments; provide pet care instructions to owners post-visit.
- Maintain detailed records of procedures, treatments, and observations while adhering to veterinary critical care standards.
- Assist with animal husbandry tasks including feeding, cleaning kennels, and ensuring optimal living conditions for hospitalized animals.
- Handle pet grooming tasks when needed to ensure animals are comfortable and well-maintained.
- Support dog training sessions or pet grooming appointments as part of comprehensive animal care services.
Experience
- Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, and physiology to accurately assist in clinical procedures.
- Experience with laboratory techniques including sample collection and analysis.
- Veterinary technician experience or equivalent certification demonstrating proficiency in clinical support roles.
- Familiarity with equine care or experience working with large animals is a plus but not required.
- Demonstrated ability to perform animal catheterization, restraint techniques, and aseptic procedures confidently.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with team members and educating pet owners about pet care needs.
