TXDOT’s Pleasanton Maintenance office is located in the "Eagle Ford Shale" area just south of San Antonio. Pleasanton Maintenance office is responsible for maintaining approximately 1,220 square miles of the States highway and roadway systems throughout Atascosa County. Annual Salary Ranges
Transportation Maintenance Technician I (A16) - $40,918 - $61,130
Transportation Maintenance Technician II (A17) - $42,976 - $64,469
Transportation Maintenance Technician III (A18) - $45,521 - $71,055
This position is for one (1) Transportation Maintenance Tech I, II or III. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Position Description
Performs highly complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: contract maintenance and material and process inspection; roadway maintenance and repair; operates light and heavy equipment; preventative and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; helping the public during emergency situations; and training other employees. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties:
Transportation Maintenance Technician I
-
Assists in identifying, repairing and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs basic welding as needed; as required uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products related to these activities.

Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as required.

Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.

Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices.
-
Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.

Move/picks up litter and roadway debris.
-
Mows rights-of-way and picnic and rest areas; performs plant and landscape maintenance including trimming trees and brush.

Operates heavy equipment such as a front-end loader one and a half cubic yards or more, tractor-trailer haul truck, large dragline, shovel, paint striper, and dump truck.

Operates light equipment such as a front-end loader one and a quarter cubic yards or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, and mower.

Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes various required reports including time-keeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and PMI.

Maintains construction project records and processes related paperwork.

Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills.

Transportation Maintenance Technician II
In addition to the duties listed above

Assists in inspecting traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices; safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

Identifies, repairs, and installs signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs welding; and uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products.

Inspects routine and non-routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.

Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards.
-
Move/picks up litter and roadway debris.
-
Operates complex heavy equipment such as a motor grader, large excavator, heavy bulldozer, crane, herbicide truck, heavy asphalt paving machine, self-propelled asphalt distributor, and profiling/milling machine.
Transportation Maintenance Technician III
In addition to the duties listed above

Inspects traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices, safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications.

Trains other employees.

Provides support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; and provides assistance to stranded motorists.

Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems.

Maintains picnic and rest areas, rights-of-way, maintenance yards and comfort stations.
Minimum Qualifications:

Transportation Maintenance Tech I: None Required
Transportation Maintenance Tech II: 1 year of experience in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience.
Transportation Maintenance Tech III: 2 years of experience in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience.
(Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent) Related technical training or education from an accredited institution may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Valid driver’s license at the time of application. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
TMT I/II: Must have a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" Endorsement or have obtained a CDL "A” License, within 120 calendar days from date of employment.
TMT III: Must have a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" Endorsement or have obtained a CDL "A” License, at time of application.
