Position Type: Full-time employment, 40 hours per week. Non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Description: The Assistant Manager of Facilities supports the Facilities Operations Manager by supervising the daily operations of the Facilities Department, coordinating maintenance activities, and overseeing Facilities personnel. This position ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Garden standards while serving as the acting department leader in the Manager's absence. Weekend availability is required.
Essential Functions:
- Assist the Facilities Operations Manager in directing the daily operations of the Facilities Department and provide day-to-day supervision of Facilities personnel.
- Assign, prioritize, and monitor daily work activities, ensuring maintenance, custodial, and operational tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to established standards.
- Provide leadership, coaching, training, and performance feedback to Facilities employees while supporting employee development and accountability.
- Participate in recruiting, onboarding, scheduling, performance evaluations, corrective action, and other supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Garden policies.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules, work orders, and departmental projects to maximize operational efficiency and minimize disruptions.
- Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards, regulatory compliance, and safety requirements are met.
- Serve as the acting Facilities Operations Manager during planned or unplanned absences, ensuring continuity of departmental operations.
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal departments to support maintenance projects, repairs, and special events.
- Assist in monitoring departmental budgets, inventory, equipment, and supplies, and recommend operational improvements.
- Support Facilities operations for Garden-wide events and emergency response activities as needed.
- Perform other supervisory and operational duties as assigned.
Essential Physical Functions:
- Must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must have the ability to work outside for 8 hours in heat, cold or light rain and can continuously walk, stand, bend, twist and/or stoop.
- Must have the ability to push, pull and perform manual labor during working hours.
- Must have the ability to work on ladders for extended periods.
- Must have the ability to drive a golf cart.
- Must be able to perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, speak effectively, and perceive depth accurately.
- Must be able to care for and have the ability to use all issued equipment such as: hand tools, hammers, safety belts/vests, safety glasses, etc.
Qualifications:
- Schedule subject to Garden needs; weekends required.18 years of age or older with valid driver’s license & proof of insurance required.
- Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in Maintenance or related field required.
- Extensive mechanical expertise and knowledge of equipment & building systems required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or certifications preferred.
- Strong experience in electrical, plumbing, or carpentry highly preferred.
- Proven ability to work independently, take initiative, and lead by example.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.

Rate: $22.00-$23.50 per hour
