Responsibilities
- Install underground utility piping systems (water, sewer, storm drainage)
- Operate heavy machinery such as dozers, loaders, backhoes, excavators, and front loader trucks to excavate trenches and position pipes accurately
- Install pipes using specialized tools like pipe lasers to ensure precise alignment and elevation
- Ensure proper connections, seals, and bedding of pipe
- Conduct utility locating to identify existing underground utilities before excavation to prevent damage or accidents
- Maintain safety protocols on-site by inspecting equipment
- Assist with concrete finishing tasks around pipeline areas for a clean, professional finish
Skills
- Proven experience operating heavy equipment including dozers, loaders, backhoes, excavators, forklifts, and front loader trucks
- Skilled in blueprint reading and interpreting technical drawings for accurate pipe installation
- Knowledge of concrete forming, finishing techniques, and welding processes related to pipeline projects
- Ability to locate underground utilities using utility locating tools to ensure safe excavation practices
- 2+ years of experience as a pipe layer in civil construction preferred
- Ability to work in trenches and confined spaces
- Physically able to lift 50+ lbs, bend, kneel, and work in varying weather conditions
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
