Job Overview
Join Water Heater Express as a Junior Water Heater Replacement Technician and build a hands-on career in residential water heaters and small plumbing. You'll start alongside a senior technician installing, maintaining, and repairing water heaters and related components until you're ready to handle flushes, repairs, and replacements on your own.
We specialize in water heaters and also take on small plumbing jobs—so flexibility on job type is essential. This role is open to junior applicants with a drive to learn; we will also adjust scope and pay for experienced senior candidates. Prior experience is not required but strengthens your application. What matters most is a passion for building, problem-solving, quality work, and great customer service.
Important: This is not a sales role. You do not need to sell jobs on-site to earn work. Jobs are already sold—your focus is professional installation, repair, and service for homeowners across the greater Charlotte area.
Pay
This position starts as hourly pay while you train and ramp up. As you gain independence and install volume, compensation moves to piece rate based on how much you install—so strong performers who complete quality work efficiently can earn more.
Schedule
Hours are variable and often set by what is sold that day or week. Expect afternoon and evening work at times, plus Saturdays. If you need a fixed 9-to-5 schedule every day, this role may not be the right fit—if you want steady hands-on work with real variety, it will suit you well.
Duties
· Assist senior technicians with replacing, installing, and repairing residential water heaters to safety standards and local building codes
· Use hand tools, power tools, and plumbing equipment for efficient installations and maintenance
· Perform an assortment of plumbing and plumbing related tasks
· Lift, move, and carry water heaters weighing up to 200 pounds (with assistance when needed)
· Kneel, crouch, stoop, climb ladders, and work in attics, crawlspaces, and other tight spaces
· Operate company vehicles responsibly to transport tools and materials to customer locations
· Follow blueprints, technical drawings, and plans for accurate installation
· Keep the job site clean—organize tools, dispose of debris properly, and follow safety protocols
· Stay flexible across water heater work and smaller plumbing jobs as the schedule requires
Requirements
· Basic construction, remodeling, or handyman experience preferred but not required—we train motivated junior hires
· Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and plumbing equipment safely
· Bring own hand tools associated with plumbing to work
· Personal cell phone will be used for communication and the Housecall Pro dispatching app.
· Willingness to learn plumbing inspection methods, camera use, and reading technical drawings
· Strong customer service skills and a positive attitude with homeowners
· Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull 50–100 lbs and occasionally handle up to 200 lbs with or without assistance
· Ability to kneel, crouch, stoop, climb ladders, and work in confined, awkward, hot, and cold spaces for extended periods
· Knowledge of local building codes and plumbing standards is a plus; training provided
· Valid driver’s license and responsible operation of a company vehicle
· Basic math skills for measurements, calculations, and reading drawings
· Flexibility for variable hours, including afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays as work demands
