Now Hiring: HDD Locator / Directional Drill Locator for Anderson Underground
Anderson Underground is hiring experienced HDD Locators to support traveling directional drilling crews.
This role is specifically focused on locating for horizontal directional drilling operations. The right candidate will have hands-on experience working directly with drill operators, tracking the drill head, reading the locator, and helping guide safe and accurate bore paths in the field.
We’re looking for someone who understands HDD work, can communicate clearly with the drill operator, follow prints and bore plans, read the ground, track depth/pitch/roll, and help keep each shot productive, accurate, and safe.
What we’re looking for:

Hands-on experience locating for HDD / directional drilling crews

Experience working directly with drill operators during bore shots

Ability to track depth, pitch, roll, signal, and bore path accuracy

Experience using HDD locating equipment such as DigiTrak, Falcon, Subsite, or similar systems

Ability to walk the bore path and help guide the drill head safely

Ability to read prints, bore plans, utility markings, and jobsite layouts

Understanding of underground utility conflicts and safe drilling practices

Experience around fiber, telecom, conduit, gas, water, sewer, or other underground utility projects

Willingness to help with potholing, setup, cleanup, and general crew support when needed

Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions

Safety-minded, dependable, and able to travel

CDL preferred but not required
Day/Day

Schedule: 10 days on / 4 days off

Week 1: Monday-Friday

Week 2: Monday-Thursday

Hours: generally averages 50-55 hours per week, but can vary depending on work, weather, and project needs

Work days are typically Monday-Friday, with some Saturdays when customers allow

Travel: flights in and out are paid for, and transportation is provided

Per diem: $175 per working day

Per diem is usually paid on rain days, but there may be cases where employees are sent home due to sustained weather. In those situations, per diem would not be paid and direction will come from the Supervisor.

Pay: $25-$35/hr based on experience

Winter work can depend on project needs and having the right crew mix in place.
