Lab Safety Service Lead
Rasmussen Mechanical Services | Council Bluffs, IA
SIGN-ON BONUS + RELOCATION PACKAGE
We're investing in the right person for this role. Sign-on bonus and full relocation package available for NSF-accredited certifiers. Let's talk about what it would take to bring you and your family to Council Bluffs.
Since 1970, Rasmussen Mechanical Services has been a family-owned mechanical contractor serving commercial, industrial, and institutional customers across the Midwest and Rocky Mountains. We've grown to over 200 people across seven locations, but we've kept the small-company feel that's made people stay with us for 20, 30, even 37 years.
We're hiring a Lab Safety Service Lead to anchor our lab safety services group — a senior, NSF-accredited certifier ready to run the work, develop the team, and build something that lasts.
The Role
This isn't a "come do certifications for us" job. It's a lead role with real scope — you'll be the technical authority on lab safety services across our customer base, the day-to-day coordinator who makes sure work gets staged and dispatched right, and the senior voice our customers know they can call.
A typical week might include:
- Performing and signing certifications on biosafety cabinets, fume hoods, cleanrooms, and controlled environments to NSF/ANSI 49, USP <797>/<800>, IEST, ASHRAE, and OSHA standards
- Coordinating daily work plans with service coordinators — assigning techs based on skill, project priority, and customer needs
- Walking jobs with sales engineers to scope new work and clarify customer requirements
- Mentoring and developing lab safety technicians — sharing what you know, building their certs and their careers
- Reviewing and signing off on certification reports, test data, and compliance documentation
- Identifying repeat opportunities and service gaps with existing customers, and helping our sales team grow the book
Why People Stay at RMS
- Family-owned, and it shows. The Rasmussens are still here. Leadership is accessible, decisions get made quickly, and people get treated like people.
- Real lead authority. You're not buried inside a 50-person regional office. You'll have real influence over how the work runs, how the team grows, and how we serve customers.
- Less travel than the big NSF shops. Our service territory is regional, not national. You'll be home most nights, not living out of a hotel.
- Real career growth. Many of our managers and directors came up through RMS. If you put in the work, there's room to move into broader operations or sales leadership.
- Industry-leading pay and benefits, plus a culture that takes work-life balance seriously.
- A genuinely good place to work. Modern offices, 24/7 gym, golf simulator, team lunches — and yes, "fun" really is one of our core values.
What You Bring
Required:
- Active NSF accreditation as a Field Certifier (NSF/ANSI 49). This is a hard requirement.
- 3–5+ years of hands-on experience in lab certification, BSC testing, cleanroom certification, fume hood testing, and HEPA filtration
- Working knowledge of USP <797>/<800>, IEST recommended practices, ASHRAE 110, and OSHA requirements
- Strong technical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving
- Valid driver's license; able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
Strongly preferred:
- Prior lead technician or service coordination experience
- Experience supporting sales conversations, estimating, or scoping
- CETA membership or active involvement in the controlled-environment community
- Track record of training and developing junior technicians toward their own accreditation
Working Conditions
Field-based role with regular customer site visits across our service territory. Most days you'll be at customer facilities; some office time for documentation, coordination, and team development. Occasional after-hours and emergency response. You'll need to climb ladders, work at elevated heights, lift 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs occasionally, and work in labs, cleanrooms, and other controlled environments.
