We have 3 shelter locations: Hyde Park, Waterbury, and Morrisville. Staff are able to cross-train at all locations in order to pick up more per diem shifts if desired. This posting is for Morrisville/Hyde Park, but please let us know if you are interested in work at any of our other locations as well.
Per-diem staff have all of the same job duties as our Shelter Day and Overnight Staff positions. Position descriptions for those jobs can be found below the Per-diem description.
- Per-Diem staff are defined as any staff member that works for LCH but do not hold regular recurring shifts.
- Per-Diem staff will be expected to sign up for at least 8 Shift Substitute On-Call Days per month. Description of those expectations are as follows:
- On-call shift substitutes will hold 15 hour on-call shifts from 5pm until 8am the next day Monday through Friday and 24 hour on-call shifts from 8am to 8am on Saturdays and Sundays (into Mondays), as well as on Holidays.
- Monday through Friday on-call shift subs will be paid stipends of $30 per day, and Saturday/Sunday/Holiday on-call shifts subs will be paid $50 per day.
- The main duty of the shift sub on-call position is to fill in a shift if someone calls out. Employees who sign up for these on-call shifts are expected to come in if someone calls out.
- If an employee signed up to be an on-call shift sub and then does not come in to cover a shift in need of coverage, they will forfeit their on-call stipend. If this occurs multiple times, they will no longer be able to sign up for on-call shifts, which may affect their employment status with LCH.
- If an on-call shift sub does not receive any call-outs that need to be filled, they will still get their stipend.
- When a per-diem employee fills a shift, they will receive an extra $2/hour on top of their hourly rate. This extra rate only applies to filling in for call-outs. If per-diem staff cover shifts for staff that have planned time off, they will be paid their regular hourly rate.
