Position Overview
We are seeking a qualified Pathology Assistant to support surgical pathology operations. Under the direct or indirect supervision of a Pathologist, the Pathology Assistant is responsible for the preparation and performance of surgical specimen and frozen section dissections, accurate gross description dictation, quality control activities, equipment maintenance, and other departmental functions that support high-quality diagnostic services and patient care.
The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in anatomic pathology, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with Pathologists, providers, and laboratory staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate patient identification throughout the specimen processing and examination workflow.
- Perform surgical specimen dissections ranging from simple to complex cases and prepare high-quality material for routine histology and specialized testing.
- Consult with Pathologists as needed to ensure accurate gross specimen assessment.
- Perform frozen sections and maintain cryostat equipment.
- Dictate complete, accurate, and timely gross descriptions.
- Communicate effectively with Pathologists and providers, both in person and virtually, to facilitate timely and accurate reporting.
- Maintain the surgical pathology grossing area and morgue, including equipment, supplies, cleanliness, and organization.
- Apply knowledge of clinical disease presentations and technical testing principles to support accurate diagnostic results.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational needs.
Required Qualifications:
- Successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program.
- ASCP certification as a Pathologists' Assistant, or ASCP examination-ready status with certification obtained prior to the start date.
- Strong knowledge of anatomic pathology procedures and laboratory practices.
- Ability to accurately perform specimen dissection and gross examination procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior surgical pathology grossing experience.
- Experience with frozen section procedures.
- Familiarity with CAP compliance and laboratory quality standards.
Certification Requirement:
- Pathologists' Assistant – Certified (ASCP)
- Certification must be obtained prior to the start date if the candidate is not already certified.

Pay: $85.00 - $95.00 per hour
