Job Description: Full-time Instructional/Dedicated Aide
Overview:

Truth serves a culturally diverse population of 6th-12th grade students in Washington, DC.

Position:
The Sojourner Truth School is seeking a full-time, collaborative on-campus classroom/dedicated aide. Among other things, the aide will work one-on-one and in small groups to help serve students with IEPs.. Salary will be determined based on experience, and will be between $38,500 and $57,242 per year.
Responsibilities:
- The day will begin by 8am, supporting morning welcome duty and breakfast
- Working directly with lead teacher and with students to support lessons and student work
- Willingness and capacity to work in small groups with diverse learners, and lead mini-lessons on middle school math topics
- Capacity to familiarize oneself with the goals of a student’s IEP and personalize approach and lessons accordingly
- The aide will work directly with the instructional team and will be a key contributor to a positive classroom climate and culture
- High comfort level engaging directly with students, and confidence supporting them through work
- Eagerness to collaborate as a teammate
- Motivated by Truth’s mission and its desire to set a national model for a high-quality, urban public Montessori secondary school
- Experience with middle school-aged students (school, camp, tutoring, or other)

Mobility and Movement (70-80%)
- Must be able to stand and walk frequently throughout the workday, including moving between classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and outdoor areas.
- Frequently bends, kneels, stoops, and crouches to assist students at their desks, on the floor, or in transitions.
Lifting/Carrying (10-15%):
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally (e.g., moving instructional materials, pushing carts).
Vision and Hearing (80- 100%):
- Must be able to hear and respond to verbal communication from students and staff, including emergency signals and classroom discussions.
Speaking/Hearing (90-100%):
- Clear verbal communication with students, staff, and parents.
- Ability to hear student responses and conversations, especially in larger classrooms or group settings.
Visual Requirements (90-100%):
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as lesson plans, student work, or computer screens.
- Monitoring student activity both in the classroom and potentially during outdoor activities.
