Position Overview
Oregon Healing Collective and Optimal Healing Institute are seeking a Bilingual Project Coordinator & Research Fellow to support a newly state-funded initiative focused on suicide prevention coordination for Latine and Spanish-language communities. This unique hybrid role is designed for a high-level academic or advanced graduate student (Master’s, MPH, MSW, or PhD track) looking to merge community-based participatory research with macro-level public health coordination. This is a part-time, temporary position at 20 hrs/week on a fixed-term contract aligned with grant cycle.
The ideal fellow will manage the technical and administrative logistics of the grant while actively contributing to qualitative data analysis and transcription coding during the project's Discovery Phase. Furthermore, the fellow will translate these findings into action by contributing to the authorship of formal community reports and evaluation summaries and delivering professional presentations to state-level stakeholders, policymakers, and community partners. This position offers significant opportunities for professional mentorship, CV building, and direct engagement with the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and state health equity leaders.
Qualifications
Required:
● Bilingual & Bicultural Fluency: Native or professional-grade fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish. Deep familiarity with traditional Latine cultural values (e.g., familismo, personalismo, respeto) and their intersection with U.S. or Oregon healthcare systems.
● Academic/Research Training: Enrolled in or recently graduated from an advanced degree program (Master’s or Doctoral level) in Public Health, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or a closely related field.
● Qualitative Methodology Experience: Academic training or practical experience in qualitative research methods, including interview transcription, coding protocols, and thematic analysis.
● Technical Aptitude: Experience with database management (Excel/Google Sheets), digital communications tools (Mailchimp or similar), and virtual platform orchestration (Zoom/Teams).
● Must be currently based in Oregon.
Preferred:
● Experience utilizing qualitative analysis software (e.g., Dedoose).
● Academic interest in suicide prevention, youth bicultural stressors, or health equity frameworks.
● Residence in Oregon with the ability to travel occasionally for annual statewide conferences (travel expenses fully reimbursed).
