Job Summary
The Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) is responsible for generating new mortgage loan business, guiding borrowers through the loan application process, and ensuring compliance with lending regulations. This role involves building relationships with clients, real estate professionals, and community partners to drive loan volume while delivering excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities
1. Loan Origination & Sales
- Proactively seek and generate new mortgage loan applications through networking, referrals, and marketing efforts.
- Educate potential borrowers about mortgage products, loan terms, and lending requirements.
- Assess clients' financial situations and recommend suitable mortgage options.
- Provide pre-qualification and pre-approval services to potential buyers.
2. Customer Service & Relationship Management
- Guide borrowers through the entire mortgage process, from application to closing.
- Maintain strong communication with clients, realtors, builders, and other referral sources.
- Ensure a smooth customer experience by addressing client concerns and resolving issues promptly.
3. Loan Processing & Compliance
- Collect, review, and verify borrower documentation, including income, credit, and assets.
- Work closely with loan processors, underwriters, and closing teams to facilitate timely approvals.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state mortgage lending regulations, including TRID, RESPA, HMDA, and Fair Lending laws.
4. Business Development & Networking
- Develop and maintain relationships with real estate agents, attorneys, builders, and financial planners to generate leads.
- Attend community events, networking groups, and industry meetings to promote mortgage lending services.
- Stay updated on market trends, mortgage products, and regulatory changes.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field.
- Experience: 2+ years of mortgage origination, lending, or sales experience preferred.
Licensing & Certification:
- Must hold or be able to obtain an NMLS (Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System) license as required by federal and state law.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of conventional, FHA, VA, and USDA loan programs.
- Excellent sales, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet sales goals.
- Proficiency in mortgage loan software (LOS), CRM systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
