Customer Service Representative (1099 Contractor)
Brown Sugar Babe is seeking a knowledgeable, customer-focused Customer Service Representative who is passionate about fragrance and committed to delivering an exceptional customer experience.
This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity. The selected individual will provide customer support services under an Independent Contractor Service Agreement.
The ideal contractor possesses extensive knowledge of Brown Sugar Babe fragrance oils, understands the fragrance industry, and confidently assists customers with product recommendations, layering suggestions, scent profiles, and fragrance education.
We are seeking someone who is actively engaged in the fragrance community and stays current on fragrance trends, viral scent discussions, designer and niche fragrance releases, and social media conversations to provide customers with informed and personalized recommendations.
Scope of Services
The independent contractor may provide services that include:
- Responding to customer inquiries through email, chat, and other designated customer support platforms.
- Demonstrating expert knowledge of Brown Sugar Babe fragrance oils, collections, and product offerings.
- Providing personalized fragrance recommendations based on customer preferences.
- Educating customers on fragrance notes, scent families, accords, layering techniques, longevity, projection, and product usage.
- Answering questions regarding fragrance similarities, scent pairings, and product recommendations.
- Providing accurate information regarding company policies related to shipping, returns, exchanges, promotions, rewards, and order support.
- Professionally resolving customer concerns while maintaining the Brown Sugar Babe brand voice.
- Remaining knowledgeable about new product launches, limited-edition collections, and fragrance releases.
- Staying informed on fragrance industry trends, viral products, and customer preferences.
- Maintaining accurate documentation of customer interactions within designated customer support systems.
Brown Sugar Babe will communicate the desired scope of services and expected service standards; however, contractors are responsible for determining the manner and method by which they perform the services, consistent with the Independent Contractor Service Agreement.
Qualifications
The ideal contractor will possess:
- A minimum of 2 years of customer service experience, preferably supporting e-commerce, beauty, fragrance, or luxury consumer brands.
- Exceptional written communication skills with excellent grammar, spelling, and professionalism.
- Extensive knowledge of Brown Sugar Babe fragrance oils and collections or the ability to quickly develop product expertise.
- Strong familiarity with designer, niche, luxury, and indie fragrance brands.
- Thorough understanding of fragrance notes, accords, scent families, fragrance terminology, and layering techniques.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Excellent attention to detail while managing multiple customer interactions.
- Experience using Shopify, Gorgias, Zendesk, or similar customer support platforms is preferred.
- The ability to provide services in a professional, timely, and independent manner.
Fragrance Community & Industry Knowledge
The ideal contractor actively follows the fragrance community and understands how social media influences fragrance purchasing decisions.
Preferred experience includes:
- Following fragrance-related content on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and other relevant platforms.
- Staying current on fragrance launches, viral scent comparisons, influencer recommendations, and emerging fragrance brands.
- Understanding seasonal fragrance trends and popular layering combinations.
- Distinguishing between marketing trends and factual fragrance information while providing accurate customer recommendations.
- Enjoying fragrance as both a consumer and industry enthusiast.

Independent Contractor Information
- This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity.
- Contractors are not employees of Brown Sugar Babe.
- Contractors are responsible for all applicable federal, state, and local taxes associated with their compensation.
- Contractors are not eligible for employee benefits, including but not limited to overtime, paid time off, holiday pay, health insurance, unemployment insurance, or workers' compensation benefits.
- Contractors may provide services to other businesses, provided doing so does not create a conflict of interest or violate the confidentiality obligations contained in the Independent Contractor Service Agreement.
- Contractors selected for this opportunity will be required to execute Brown Sugar Babe's Independent Contractor Service Agreement before providing services.
- Contractors are expected to furnish and maintain the equipment and internet access necessary to perform the contracted services unless otherwise agreed in writing..

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
