The Wastewater Treatment Plant Laboratory Supervisor is an exempt position under the general supervision of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent. The employee is responsible for managing the laboratory; supervising the work of laboratory analysts; performing laboratory tests for regulatory compliance, process control, and environmental research as required; managing laboratory data including results of analyses and the associated quality assurance documentation; generating reports for compliance and to assist with facility planning and management; and providing consultation and advice regarding sampling and analyses to the Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent. May perform duties of similar classifications of an equal or lower pay grade as required.

In addition to the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above, the position requires:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in chemistry, microbiology, biology, medical technology, or related fields in the natural sciences

At least three years of experience working in a laboratory, at least two of which include supervisory experience or as a lead worker in responsible charge of projects, quality assurance, regulatory compliance and personnel

A valid driver’s license at the time of application, and a valid Colorado driver’s license within 30 days of employment

License restrictions that may hinder your ability to drive on City business, such as an interlock, will be cause for disqualification

During the course of employment, a valid license must be maintained, and the employee must notify the City immediately upon changes to the status of their license
In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications at the time of application, within one (1) year of appointment the employee must:

Obtain a State of Colorado Wastewater Facility Operator Class “D” Certification
Preferred QUALIFICATIONS:-
A master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in chemistry, microbiology, biology, medical technology, or related fields in the natural sciences
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position may be exposed to noise, moving parts, heights, dangerous chemicals and conditions, disease, extreme weather, and other dangerous conditions. The individual must be willing to work overtime, weekends, holidays and may be called back for emergencies. This employee must be willing and able to understand and comply with all safety procedures, directions, and standards. This position will be required to perform heavy lifting and climbing stairs and ladders. Must be able to physically perform field-sampling tests in all weather conditions and environments.
All required licenses and certifications listed above must be maintained throughout the term of employment. Failure to obtain or maintain licenses and certifications will result in demotion or termination.
Due to Federal and State Criminal Justice System access requirements, classifications that access and maintain criminal justice information may also be required, as a condition of employment, to not have been convicted of and/or have pending charges of a felony or misdemeanor crime that would deny or otherwise restrict access to criminal justice information.
