Young Management & Consulting (YMC) is seeking an experienced Project Controls Scheduler to support electric utility transmission, distribution, substation, renewable energy, power generation, and infrastructure projects within our Energy, Transmission & Distribution group.
The Project Scheduler will play a critical role in project planning, controls, forecasting, schedule analysis, and performance reporting across multiple utility and infrastructure programs. This position is responsible for developing, maintaining, analyzing, and communicating detailed project schedules throughout the full project lifecycle—from engineering and procurement through construction, commissioning, and closeout.
The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, construction managers, engineers, project controls professionals, contractors, and utility clients to ensure schedules accurately reflect project scope, sequencing, dependencies, milestones, risks, resource requirements, and actual field progress.
The ideal candidate is highly analytical, organized, and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple complex schedules in fast-paced utility and infrastructure environments.
This position may be performed remotely unless otherwise specified by the client. Periodic travel of approximately 10–15% may be required to attend project meetings, visit job sites, validate progress, support schedule reviews, and participate in client performance evaluations.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Scheduling and Planning
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules for electric transmission, distribution, substation, renewable energy, power generation, and infrastructure projects.
- Prepare baseline schedules, design schedules, procurement schedules, construction schedules, commissioning schedules, milestone schedules, recovery schedules, and project closeout schedules.
- Establish schedule logic, activity sequencing, durations, constraints, calendars, milestones, and critical path relationships.
- Integrate engineering, permitting, procurement, material delivery, construction, outage coordination, testing, commissioning, and turnover activities into comprehensive project schedules.
- Develop and maintain Work Breakdown Structures, schedule coding structures, activity dictionaries, and project calendars.
- Ensure project schedules align with approved scope, contract requirements, project execution plans, client standards, and field conditions.
- Update project schedules using validated progress information, actual start and finish dates, remaining durations, percent-complete data, and revised forecasts.
- Incorporate approved change orders, scope revisions, design changes, procurement impacts, outage modifications, and field conditions into schedule updates and forecasts.
- Support resource loading, cost loading, manpower planning, cash-flow forecasting, and earned value management activities.
- Coordinate schedule integration across engineering, procurement, construction, financial, and project-management systems.
Schedule Analysis and Controls
- Perform Critical Path Method analysis, float analysis, near-critical path reviews, schedule health assessments, and schedule risk evaluations.
- Identify schedule delays, variances, resource conflicts, logic deficiencies, sequencing concerns, and emerging project risks.
- Evaluate schedule impacts associated with contractor performance, design revisions, material delays, permitting issues, outage constraints, change orders, and unforeseen field conditions.
- Develop schedule-impact analyses, mitigation strategies, corrective action plans, and recovery schedules.
- Monitor progress against approved baselines, contractual milestones, and forecast completion dates.
- Review contractor and subcontractor schedules for completeness, accuracy, logic, contractual compliance, and alignment with the master project schedule.
- Support time-impact analyses, delay evaluations, change management, and schedule-related claims documentation.
- Assist project teams in maintaining schedule integrity and implementing consistent project-controls practices.
Reporting and Forecasting
- Prepare weekly and monthly schedule updates, milestone reports, look-ahead schedules, schedule narratives, and performance summaries.
- Generate schedule dashboards, progress curves, critical-path reports, variance reports, milestone trackers, and executive-level presentations.
- Collect, review, and validate schedule information provided by project managers, engineers, contractors, construction teams, and other stakeholders.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements for YMC leadership and utility clients.
- Assist with project forecasting, productivity analysis, progress measurement, earned value reporting, and estimate-at-completion evaluations.
- Clearly communicate schedule status, risks, trends, constraints, and recommended corrective actions to project leadership.
- Maintain accurate schedule documentation, update records, assumptions, change logs, and supporting narratives.
Project Coordination and Client Support
- Lead and participate in schedule-development workshops, project-controls meetings, progress meetings, change-management meetings, and schedule-review sessions.
- Coordinate with project managers, construction managers, engineers, contractors, subcontractors, procurement teams, and utility stakeholders to maintain schedule alignment.
- Support outage planning, construction sequencing, energization planning, commissioning activities, and operational coordination.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with utility clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, vendors, and project stakeholders.
- Participate in project site visits to verify physical progress, milestone completion, productivity, sequencing, and schedule accuracy.
- Collaborate across engineering, construction, procurement, finance, project controls, and client teams to resolve schedule-related issues.
- Provide scheduling guidance and technical support to project teams and junior project-controls personnel.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, Business, or a related discipline preferred.
- Minimum of eight years of relevant scheduling, planning, or project-controls experience within electric utilities, infrastructure, industrial construction, renewable energy, power generation, or heavy construction environments preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining complex schedules for multiple concurrent projects or large capital programs.
- Experience supporting transmission, distribution, substation, power generation, renewable energy, or utility infrastructure projects strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, utility operations, engineering workflows, procurement activities, outage coordination, and project execution methodologies.
- Experience developing Work Breakdown Structures, project coding structures, integrated master schedules, and project-controls processes.
- Knowledge of earned value management, progress measurement, forecasting, and project-performance analysis.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, engineering documents, specifications, contracts, procurement schedules, and project-execution plans.
- Experience reviewing contractor schedules and evaluating schedule impacts, delays, and recovery strategies.
- Strong analytical, organizational, time-management, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to communicate complex scheduling information clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across multidisciplinary project teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, schedules, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment and Travel
- Remote or hybrid work may be available depending on client and project requirements.
- Approximately 10–15% travel may be required to project sites, utility facilities, and client offices.

- The role may involve visits to active construction sites, substations, power facilities, and utility infrastructure locations.
