At MFS Talent, we are seeking an experienced and driven Commercial Estimating Manager to lead our estimating operations and support the successful delivery of commercial and public works projects throughout California.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of commercial construction estimating experience, including leadership responsibilities and exposure to public works projects.
Please note: This is a fully onsite position based in San Jose, CA. Relocation assistance is not available.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop the estimating team to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and professional growth
- Oversee the preparation of detailed cost estimates for commercial and public works construction projects
- Review quantity takeoffs, pricing, subcontractor proposals, and construction documents
- Attend job walks, pre-bid meetings, and client meetings as needed
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, subcontractors, and vendors during preconstruction
- Analyze subcontractor bids for scope coverage, pricing accuracy, and potential risk exposure
- Identify scope gaps, exclusions, and value-engineering opportunities
- Develop project budgets, bid summaries, and conceptual estimates
- Manage estimate data and documentation using Procore, BuildingConnected, and internal systems
- Ensure compliance with public works bidding requirements and bid deadlines
- Collaborate closely with Project Managers and leadership teams for smooth project turnover
- Maintain organized records of estimates, historical cost data, and subcontractor relationships
- Conduct post-bid reviews and provide strategic recommendations to leadership
Qualifications
- 5+ years of commercial construction estimating experience
- Prior supervisory or management experience preferred
- Public works estimating experience strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and trade scopes including architectural, structural, civil, and MEP
- Ability to manage multiple bids, deadlines, and team priorities simultaneously
- Experience with:
- BuildingConnected
- Procore
- Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience in healthcare, life sciences, or institutional construction is a plus
- Strong communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills
- Self-motivated with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
