Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience:

Must be a student enrolled and actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in planning, urban studies, public administration, or geography; or possess a bachelor's degree.
OR

Enrolled in a graduate program in planning, urban studies, public administration, or geography.
OR
-
Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the job proficiently may be substituted for the above requirements.
Nature of Work:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Community Development, the Community Development Intern performs a variety of tasks as requested. Duties include conducting research and preparing written documents, preparing detailed staff reports for the City Planning Commission, presenting information verbally, and assisting with site inspections.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Primary Essential Work Functions:

Conducts research and prepares detailed staff reports for the City Planning Commission, EDA, and City Council.

Presents information verbally to the City Planning Commission, EDA and City Council.

Undertakes planning and other studies as requested by professional staff members.

Conducts site inspections.

Enforces the City sign ordinance.

Independent review and summary of local, state, and federal planning guidance.

Attends and assists public outreach and general stakeholder education events as needed (virtual and in-person).

Communicates effectively with other departments.
Other Work Functions:
-
Reviews draft study components from a variety of separate and concurrent transportation studies and plans.

Prepares reports, correspondence, and other documents.

Takes part in Site Plan Review Committee meetings.

Delivers packets to City Council members.

Assists at City Council meetings.

Performs physical and mental demands and work environment requirements for this position.

Attendance during regularly scheduled work hours and outside regular hours as necessary.

Effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and community customers.

Performs other related work as assigned or apparent.

Communicates With:

Supervision:
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION This position will generally work 20-29 hours per week. Working hours are flexible, Monday through Friday, and outside of regular working hours as necessary.
