Position Summary
Champion Integrated Building Solutions (CIBS) is seeking an Electrical Designer to develop detailed electrical designs, construction drawings, and technical documentation for custom industrial buildings, power and control buildings, modular electrical systems, and integrated power distribution solutions. This position supports engineering and project teams by producing accurate, code-compliant electrical designs that meet customer specifications, project schedules, and industry standards.
The Electrical Designer collaborates with Structural Engineers, Project Managers, Procurement, Field Services, and Operations throughout the project lifecycle to ensure electrical systems are fully coordinated, constructible, and ready for installation and commissioning.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
· Develop electrical design packages for industrial buildings, power and control buildings, modular facilities, and integrated electrical systems.
· Prepare detailed electrical construction drawings including power plans, lighting layouts, one-line diagrams, panel schedules, conduit layouts, cable schedules, grounding plans, and wiring diagrams.
· Coordinate electrical system layouts with structural, architectural, mechanical, and civil disciplines to ensure complete project integration.
· Interpret customer specifications, project requirements, electrical standards, and engineering documentation to produce accurate design deliverables.
· Assist in selecting electrical equipment including panelboards, transformers, lighting systems, conduit, cable, disconnects, and other electrical components.
· Prepare Bills of Material (BOMs) and equipment schedules for procurement and project execution.
· Support Project Managers by producing engineering deliverables that align with project schedules and customer milestones.
· Review and incorporate engineering revisions and customer-requested changes throughout the project lifecycle.
· Participate in interdisciplinary design reviews to improve constructability, coordination, and design quality.
· Provide technical support during construction, installation, startup, and commissioning by responding to Requests for Information (RFIs) and resolving design-related issues.
· Maintain engineering documentation, revision history, and drawing control in accordance with company quality procedures.
· Coordinate with Procurement to evaluate approved materials and alternative products when required.
· Ensure electrical designs comply with applicable codes, customer specifications, and company engineering standards.
· Support continuous improvement initiatives by enhancing drafting standards, design workflows, and engineering efficiency.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
· Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Drafting, or a related technical discipline preferred.
· 3–5 years of electrical design experience supporting commercial, industrial, utility, or EPC projects.
· Experience preparing electrical construction drawings and design documentation.
· Experience with modular buildings, power distribution systems, or industrial facilities preferred.
· Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering projects is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
· Working knowledge of electrical power distribution systems and building electrical design.
· Understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70, and applicable industry standards.
· Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, equipment layouts, and technical specifications.
· Knowledge of lighting systems, grounding, cable routing, conduit systems, and equipment layouts.
· Strong understanding of engineering drawing standards and construction documentation.
· Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.
· High attention to detail and commitment to producing quality engineering deliverables.
Technical Skills
· Proficiency with AutoCAD.
· Experience with AutoCAD Electrical preferred.
· Experience with Autodesk Revit MEP preferred.
· Working knowledge of Bluebeam Revu.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.
· Experience using document management systems and project collaboration software preferred.
Preferred Certifications
· Autodesk Certified Professional – AutoCAD
· Autodesk Certified Professional – Revit
· OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour Construction (preferred)
Working Conditions
This position is based at Champion Integrated Building Solutions' Humble, Texas facility and requires close collaboration with engineering, project management, procurement, field services, and operations teams. Occasional travel to customer sites or active project locations may be required to support design reviews, site evaluations, installation activities, and project commissioning.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
· Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
· Ability to access manufacturing and warehouse environments while wearing required personal protective equipment when necessary.
· Ability to use standard office equipment, including computers and mobile communication devices.
