Travel RN - Med/Surg - Oncology

Job Details

American Traveler is hiring a RN for a Medical Surgical Oncology unit requiring MedSurg experience and an active OH or compact RN license.

Work on a Medical Surgical Oncology unit within a cancer hospital setting
Care for patients with lymphoma, multiple myeloma, acute and chronic leukemias, sickle cell disease, and other benign and non-hematologic cancers
Patient ratios typically 1:4, with a possible ratio of 1:5
Performs chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, insulin drips, and heparin drips
Manages oncologic emergencies including tumor lysis syndrome and cytokine release syndrome
Day shift (3x12, 7:00-19:30) or Night shift (3x12, 19:00-7:30) available
Weekend shifts variable based on unit needs with no set/blocked scheduling
Floating required to other Med/Surg and Oncology units
Uses Epic charting system

Active OH or compact RN license required at time of submission
BLS and ACLS certifications required; OCN certification preferred
Minimum 2 years of current acute care experience in MedSurg, within the last 12 months
MedSurg experience required; Hematology/Oncology experience preferred but not required
Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
Skilled in telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
Experience with central line and PICC line management, blood product administration, and central line blood draws
Experience starting IVs, peripheral line care, and feeding tube management
Experience with port access and management, and chemotherapy administration preferred
Epic EMR experience required
2 professional references required, with at least one from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role; charge RN acceptable as second reference; no coworker references accepted

Provide direct patient care with a heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
Utilizes Rapid Response Teams as needed
Handles body fluid management post-chemotherapy
Isolation precautions and PPE use required for patient care
Candidates should come with a willingness to learn and grow their nursing practice; first-time travelers are welcome
Former employees eligible for travel assignment after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
Current employees of the health system are ineligible for travel positions at this facility
Local candidates accepted at the same rate
RTO must be submitted with the application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements promptly after signing contract due to strict compliance deadlines
