Job Overview
We are seeking a creative, mission-driven leader responsible for developing and delivering exceptional experiences that inspire healthy, active aging for adults age 55 and older. Working collaboratively with the Executive Director, the Director of Engagement (DOE) researches, designs, implements, and evaluates innovative programs that advance Senior Action's mission while fostering connection, lifelong learning, and community.
The Director of Engagement curates a diverse portfolio of programs and experiences, including continuing education, concerts and entertainment, social gatherings, special events, clubs, and group travel. Every offering is intentionally designed to promote social connection, cognitive and physical wellness, personal enrichment, and meaningful engagement.
The DOE ensures that programming across all Senior Action locations, including both organization-operated sites and community partner locations, reflects the organization's commitment to excellence through high-quality experiences, consistency, variety, accessibility, and responsible fiscal management. The position continually evaluates participant interests, emerging trends, and community needs to keep programming fresh, relevant, and responsive.
In addition to creating outstanding individual member experiences, the Director of Engagement develops initiatives that strengthen participation, attract new members, and cultivate meaningful relationships with corporate members through engaging programs and events.
Business Overview
Senior Action is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to serve the 55+ population in Greenville through a variety of programs and services all over Greenville County. Senior Action, the largest senior center in the state, was establised in 1967 and provides services including 6 activity centers, transportation, daily meals, medical transportation, lawn care assistance, a 48-unit apartment complex, full wellness facilities and programs, fine arts programs, and educational activities, group travel, and much more.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, promote, implement, and evaluate regular program schedules to provide creative and value added classes, programs, and activities for all sites. Plan, promote, implement, and evaluate special events throughout the year.
- Promote the benefits of membership.
- Incorporate Corporate Member representatives into the appropriate programs, classes, and events.
- Assist in the development and distribution of an activities calendar and newsletter for all sites.
- Apply financial and internal control procedures in accordance with established policies.
- Work with other Program Directors and Site Coordinators on the physical environment of the building including room setups, lunch, appearance, cleanliness, classroom supplies, bulletin boards and other forms of program promotion.
- Collaborate with the Volunteer Coordinator to develop, train, and oversee a network of community volunteers to assist in planning and preparation for activities and events.
- Routinely evaluate programs, classes and events to measure success in customer satisfaction and loyalty to our brand.
- Receive and respond in a timely manner to inquiries, concerns, complaints and requests for assistance from members and the general public.
- Develop the budget for the Engagement department; reviewing budgets monthly and making any necessary adjustments to meet or exceed goals.
- Prepare presentations and reports on program goals and benchmarks.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) required, Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Recreation, Health Promotion, Health or a related area preferred; three years related experience in program management and budgeting required. Experience working with senior adults in an active environment preferred.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
