Job Description
The Toddler Assistant Teacher collaborates with the Lead Teacher to create a welcoming and nurturing Montessori environment that fosters the holistic development of each child—physically, emotionally, socially, and intellectually. This individual brings creativity, innovative problem-solving skills, and a passion for adapting to the evolving landscape of education, while nurturing a deep appreciation for nature.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in conducting continuous observations of each child to track their developmental progress.
- Support daily student activities inside and outside the classroom.
- Maintain a calm, caring attitude and consistently observe children to respectfully enforce ground rules and classroom behavior guidelines.
- Use Positive Discipline techniques to promote the social and emotional development of each child.
- Help maintain a neat, well-organized, and prepared environment.
- Communicate openly and effectively with co-workers and administration.
- Ensure a consistent Montessori environment throughout the school hours.
- Attend all staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school events as assigned.
- Follow the school’s policies and procedures for student record-keeping.
Qualifications:
- Minium 1 year of experience in an infant/toddler classroom.
- Ability to remain poised, positive, and energetic in a busy work environment.
- Ability to plan and manage multiple tasks while developing solutions to challenges.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Must be able to move between children in the classroom and on the playground, including squatting, bending to the child’s eye level, and sitting on the floor.
- Sanitize toddler materials throughout the day to maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. as needed to assist with children, support program activities, ensure safety, and manage emergency situations.
