Position Title: AccessVet Hospital Administrator
Department: AccessVet, Community Veterinary Hospital
Classification : Full-Time, Exempt
Reports To: Chief Medical Officer
Work Hours : This is a full-time leadership position requiring a minimum commitment of 40 hours per week. Due to the nature of veterinary operations, spay/neuter services, and business demands, the Hospital Administrator, Accessvet is expected to work additional hours as necessary to successfully lead the operation. Regular availability includes evenings, weekends, and holidays. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.
Position Summary
The Hospital Administrator serves as the senior operational leader for AccessVet, Halifax Humane Society’s community veterinary hospital. The position provides strategic leadership for all non-medical operations, including financial performance, staffing, client experience, operational planning, inventory, vendor management, and clinic growth. Working in close partnership with the Chief Medical Officer, the Hospital Administrator ensures AccessVet delivers compassionate, high-quality, and affordable veterinary care while advancing Halifax Humane Society’s mission to champion pets and empower their people. This role is instrumental in expanding access to care, strengthening the human-animal bond, reducing unnecessary pet surrender, and supporting the long-term sustainability of the organization.

Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Lead all non-medical operations, including high-quality spay/neuter services, community medicine, wellness care, client services, scheduling, workflow, inventory, and facilities.
- Partner with the Chief Medical Officer to optimize patient care, operational efficiency, and client satisfaction.
- Establish operational goals, key performance indicators, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support long-range planning, clinic expansion, and new program development.
Financial & Business Management
- Develop and manage the annual operating budget and monitor financial performance.
- Oversee productivity, staffing utilization, inventory, purchasing, vendor contracts, and capital planning.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency while balancing mission impact with financial sustainability.
Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, develop, coach, and retain a high-performing, mission-driven team.
- Provide leadership, accountability, and professional development for clinic managers.
- Foster a collaborative culture grounded in compassion, service, accountability, and innovation.
Community & Strategic Partnerships
- Promote an exceptional client experience and expand access to affordable veterinary care.
- Represent AccessVet with donors, community partners, vendors, grantors, and professional organizations.
- Support fundraising, outreach, and strategic initiatives that strengthen community impact.
Compliance & Quality
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and organizational policies.
- Maintain operational reporting, quality assurance, SOPs, and continuous improvement efforts.
Qualifications
Required
- Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) preferred/required.
- 5–7 years of progressive veterinary hospital leadership experience.
- Demonstrated success in financial management, operations, budgeting, and staff leadership.
- Experience supervising managers and multidisciplinary veterinary teams.
- Proficiency with veterinary practice management software and Microsoft Office.
Preferred
- Experience in nonprofit, shelter medicine, or access-to-care veterinary programs.
- Experience with high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter operations.
- Experience launching, expanding, or managing multi-service veterinary facilities.

Physical & Employment Requirements
Ability to work in a veterinary environment, including standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds with reasonable accommodation, and exposure to animals, medical supplies, cleaning agents, and typical veterinary clinic conditions. Maintain a valid unrestricted Florida driver's license, pass background screening, pre-employment drug screening and provide professional references.

Pay: $95,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
