Job Description:
A Mechanical Technician in food manufacturing keeps plant equipment running safely and efficiently to minimize costly downtime. This role is responsible for ensuring all repairs and maintenance meet strict food safety, workplace safety, and hygiene regulations.
Core Responsibilities:
Preventative & Corrective Maintenance
- Execute scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) plans and respond rapidly to equipment breakdowns on the production floor.
- Diagnose and repair complex mechanical issues on core bakery machinery, including conveyors, mixers, slicers, ovens, and packaging lines.
- Perform system overhauls by rebuilding vital components such as pumps, gearboxes, and pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders.
Operational Support & Setup
Assist production operators in setting up, adjusting, and changing over machines for different product runs to
optimize workflow.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues efficiently during shifts to ensure high operational performance and minimize
production delays.
Compliance, Safety & Documentation
- Safety First: Adhere strictly to OSHA safety guidelines, company safety policies, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols.
- Food Safety: Follow strict food safety standards, such as SQF (Safe Quality Food) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), ensuring machinery is properly sanitized and completely safe for food contact after maintenance tasks.
- Record Keeping: Complete precise data entry by logging all repairs, parts used, and equipment modifications into a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
Key Qualifications
Experience & Education
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Technical degree or diploma in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or equivalent on-the-job mechanical experience.
- Previous maintenance experience in a food manufacturing or production facility is highly preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
- Mechanical Aptitude: Strong working knowledge of power transmission elements, bearings, gearboxes, and pneumatics/hydraulics.
- Problem Solving: A natural ability to troubleshoot equipment irregularities and make sound, safe judgments under pressure.
- Communication: Good interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively across production and engineering teams.
Physical & Scheduling Requirements
- Adaptability: Ability to work in challenging manufacturing environments, which may include temperature extremes, wet areas, or high noise levels.
- Stamina: Comfort handling physically demanding tasks, including lifting, moving components, and standing for long periods.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, weekends, or off-shifts (2nd or 3rd shift) to support a 24/7 production facility.
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
