The City of Calistoga is seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented accounting professional to join our Administrative Services team. We are recruiting for one position, which may be filled as either an Accounting Assistant or a Senior Accounting Assistant, depending on the successful candidate's experience, qualifications, and demonstrated abilities.

What You'll Do
Regardless of level, you'll play an important role in supporting the City's financial operations while providing exceptional customer service to our residents, businesses, and internal departments. Typical responsibilities include:
- Accounts payable and accounts receivable support
- Cash receipting and daily bank deposits
- Utility billing and business licensing
- Financial recordkeeping and account reconciliations
- Assisting customers at the public counter and over the phone
- Preparing reports and maintaining accurate financial records
- Supporting special projects and other accounting functions

Accounting Assistant
Perfect for candidates beginning or growing their accounting career.
The Accounting Assistant performs a variety of administrative and accounting support duties under supervision, including customer service, cashiering, processing payments and deposits, assisting with grant administration, supporting City departments, and maintaining financial records. As experience is gained, employees take on increasingly complex assignments.
Typical Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One (1) year of accounting, bookkeeping, or financial recordkeeping experience
Senior Accounting Assistant
Designed for experienced accounting professionals who are ready to work independently and take on more complex accounting responsibilities.
In addition to performing advanced accounting support work, the Senior Accounting Assistant independently manages complex accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, utility billing, business licensing, reconciliations, year-end support, and payroll assistance. This position also provides technical guidance and training to less experienced staff when needed.
Typical Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible accounting or financial recordkeeping experience
- College coursework in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
