Job Summary
Join our dynamic construction team as a Traffic Control Flagger, where your role is vital in ensuring safety and smooth traffic flow around active construction sites. You will be responsible for directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic, maintaining safety protocols, and supporting the efficient movement of construction equipment and personnel. Duties
- Set up and operate traffic control devices such as signs, cones, barriers, and flagging equipment to guide vehicles and pedestrians safely through construction zones
- Direct traffic flow using standardized hand signals or flagging tools, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and project plans
- Communicate clearly with construction crews, drivers, and pedestrians to prevent accidents and manage congestion effectively
- Monitor the work zone for potential hazards, reporting unsafe conditions immediately to supervisors
- Assist with the setup of detours or lane closures in accordance with project specifications and FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations
- Support heavy equipment operation by coordinating vehicle movements around dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, front loader trucks, and other machinery
- Maintain safety standards by wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to all safety protocols during shifts
Skills
- Strong understanding of heavy equipment operation including dozer, loader operation, backhoe operation, grader operation, and dump truck handling
- Mechanical knowledge related to construction machinery such as Caterpillar equipment and other heavy-duty vehicles
- Ability to perform manual handling tasks involving heavy lifting and moving materials safely
- Prior experience working on construction projects within civil infrastructure or highway maintenance roles
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations governing commercial vehicle operations and safety standards
- Construction site experience with utility locating, paving activities, and general civil infrastructure work
- Excellent communication skills for clear flagging signals and coordination with team members
