About Stellar Capital
Stellar Capital is a fast-moving alternative finance company specializing in merchant cash advances. We work with a network of in-house and external ISO brokers to deliver funding solutions to small and mid-size businesses across the country. Our underwriting team is the backbone of our operation — we move quickly, make sharp decisions, and hold ourselves to a high standard of accuracy and professionalism.
The Role
We're looking for a sharp, detail-oriented underwriter to join our Miami office. You will receive pre-scrubbed deal files from our internal team and be responsible for making final credit decisions on merchant cash advance applications throughout the business day.
Our scrub team will have already pulled and flagged bank statement data — including current positions, outstanding debt, leverage, and real revenue. Your job is to take that foundation and make a sound, defensible underwriting decision.
This is a high-volume role. You will be expected to maintain a consistent and efficient pace while protecting the company from excessive risk.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Review pre-scrubbed deal packages submitted by in-house and external ISO brokers
- Analyze bank statements for average daily balance (ADB), cash flow consistency, NSF frequency, overdraft patterns, and seasonality
- Evaluate merchant borrowing history, existing MCA positions, UCC filings, and lien exposure
- Assess total debt load and affordability relative to gross revenue
- Identify and flag open lawsuits, judgments, tax liens, and other legal risk factors
- Evaluate time in business, industry risk, and seasonal red flags in revenue patterns
- Issue approvals with structured terms (advance amount, factor rate, term length, payment frequency)
- Decline ineligible deals with clear, documented reasoning
- Request additional documentation when needed before decisioning
- Communicate decisions professionally and promptly to brokers via email or CRM
- Maintain organized deal notes and decision logs throughout the day
What We're Looking For
We are open to two candidate profiles:
- Experienced: 1+ years of underwriting in merchant cash advance, alternative lending, or small business finance — you know how to read a deal and price it accurately with minimal ramp-up time
- Finance background, no MCA experience: A strong foundation in financial analysis, accounting, banking, or credit — you understand cash flow, balance sheets, and risk fundamentals. You will complete a structured 2–4 week paid training program to learn MCA-specific underwriting and deal pricing
Required Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets — used daily in this role
- Ability to manage a high volume of files efficiently throughout the day without sacrificing accuracy
- Excellent written communication skills — broker-facing responses must be clear and professional
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; comfortable making judgment calls under time pressure
- Detail-oriented with a low tolerance for errors
- Discreet and trustworthy with confidential financial data
- Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to a consistent in-office schedule
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with UCC filings, lien searches, and public records review
- Experience using MCA-specific platforms or CRMs
- Background in credit analysis, commercial lending, or financial services
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus given the South Florida market
Compensation & Schedule
- $2,500 per week
- 1099 independent contractor position
- In-person only — remote work is not available for this role
- Office hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM or 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- Location: 10800 Biscayne Blvd, Miami, FL
