M.C. Schaff & Associates, a member of the MCS Family of Companies is searching for a Full-Time Construction Inspector for our Scottsbluff, Nebraska office. The company is a full-service civil Engineering consulting firm with extensive experience in all realms of the civil Engineering field in particular municipal infrastructure projects.
We are currently seeking a motivated Construction Inspector with a willingness to be a strong team player. Work will also include field-based material testing and data collection for civil related projects. A love for the outdoors, the ability to read construction plans and specifications, and a highly-detailed recordkeeping process is crucial.
Overall Responsibilities:
Construction Inspectors assure construction projects are completed in compliance with plans, standards, specifications, special requirements, codes and regulations.
Applicants should be able to perform routine semi-skilled and technical construction inspection work for a variety of projects, including but not limited to transportation, water/wastewater, development, and building construction/rehabilitation. Must be able to resolve conflicts within their scope of authority.
Excellent customer service skills are important. Applicants should be able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees, contractors, clients, and all members of the general public.
Perform field observations of infrastructure related projects, testing of construction materials (e.g. soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel). Communicate with project manager, engineering technicians, client representative, contractor’s representative and others as applicable regarding the construction site, project requirements, and testing, observation, and inspection requirements and results. Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observation in the form of written and digital reports as work is performed for daily transmittal to the Project Manager/Engineer.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
- Supervise quality control elements at job sites. Inspect and approval all phases of construction and improvement work.
- Provides clear documentation of findings and results.
- Communicates information to Project Manager and discusses accuracy of data in preparation for submittal.
- Submits documentation and communicates results as directed by the Project Manager.
- Will be placed in a progressively increased role of training and responsibility in work assignments.
- Maintains assigned equipment.
- Follow safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects. Perform pre-task planning prior to executing work. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
- Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects. Inspects compliance with local, state, and federal standards.
- Some out-of-town work required including limited overnight stays
- Some weekend work required
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent (GED).
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
- Proficient in computer-aided software such as Email, Excel, Word, Adobe pdf’s.
- Obtain ACI certification within 90 days of hire.
- Experience related to the construction field a plus
- Capable of reading and understanding construction plans and specifications
- Able to handle and lift at least 90-lbs
- Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
- Able to work outside and withstand varied inclement weather conditions
Preferred Requirements:
- Obtain Nuclear Density Gauge certification within 6 months of hire.
- Continuing education in civil engineering, construction or related field.
- Two (2) years experience with construction techniques/inspection work.
