Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide exceptional care and support to individuals with diverse needs (Not the same as HHA). Duties
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using equipment such as Hoyer lifts or other assistive devices
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and observe for any changes in health status, documenting findings accurately while adhering to HIPAA regulations
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs and assist with meal planning and cooking
- Administer medications following prescribed care plans and document medication administration in compliance with safety standards
- Support clients during outings or community activities to promote social engagement and independence
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light cleaning duties within client living spaces and common areas
- Observe and report on patient behavior, mental status, or any signs of distress such as dementia or Alzheimer's disease, ensuring timely intervention when necessary
Skills
- Proven experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, or home health settings
- Knowledge of patient care techniques including assisting with ADLs, medication administration, and patient monitoring
- Familiarity with specialized care working with individuals with developmental disabilities
- Certifications in CPR and First Aid are highly desirable; knowledge of HIPAA compliance is essential for maintaining confidentiality
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when required and operate mobility aids like Hoyer lifts or resident lifts
- Strong observational skills for patient monitoring and patient safety assessments
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members, clients, families, and healthcare professionals
