Position: General Labor-Tail Man - Open Cut (Non-Exempt)

Job Summary Description:
The General Labor (Tail Man) is responsible for supporting the Open Cut crew by assisting with excavation, pipe installation, site cleanup, material handling, and other assigned labor tasks to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards.
Essential Job Accountabilities:

Work effectively with supervisors, pipe layers, equipment operators, and crew members on open cut construction projects.

Follow directions from the Pipe Layer, Foreman, and other designated supervisors.

Assist with excavation, pipe laying, backfilling, grading, and related construction activities.

Perform general labor duties including shoveling, cleaning, material handling, and job site organization.

Load, unload, move, and stage tools, equipment, and materials as directed.

Assist with job site setup and cleanup before, during, and after construction activities.

Support crew members wherever needed to ensure project success.

Identify and report safety hazards to supervisors immediately.

Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with company safety policies.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education:
-
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Experience:
-
Previous experience in construction, utility, excavation, or outdoor labor environments preferred.

Experience working around underground utilities, pipeline construction, or heavy equipment is a plus.

Acceptable driving record preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong work ethic and willingness to perform physically demanding work.

Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a crew.

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday.

Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly.

Willingness and ability to travel for extended periods when project needs require.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
