Washington Tech Middle School is seeking a licensed English as Second Language teacher for 2026-2027 School Year!
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A valid teaching license in English Second Language (K-12), issued by the Minnesota Department of Education/PELSB.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Successful teaching experience in EL settings.
- Familiarity with multicultural, gender and disability-fair interdisciplinary curricula.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:

Teach English as a second language through reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.

Work cooperatively with team members including other ELL staff and mainstream teachers to provide a coordinated instructional program that provides language supports to ensure that English Learners are able to access the core curriculum.

Develop and implement innovative methods for serving students in a school with a flexible schedule and multiple collaborations.

Support the State of Minnesota Graduation Standards and content area packages to promote curriculum in the school.

Assist parents in understanding the education program/system offered by the district and the progress of their students.

Communicate, develop and maintain strong relationships with other staff, parents, community in explaining the purpose and benefits of ELL services.

Work effectively with students, staff, community members and parents from various ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.

Identify students at the site who qualify for EL services as needed when not identified by Placement Center.

Participate and coordinate, if needed, in training on effective ELL strategies.
-
Deliver and implement ELL services in accordance with EL District service models.

Assist the ELL Director in the collection and maintenance of necessary records/information.

Provide leadership and demonstrate willingness to seek and provide professional growth and development in the area of language acquisition.

Attend district meetings and workshops.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge about the linguistic and cultural differences, which may affect ELL students and their parents.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively and in a culturally appropriate manner with ELL students and their parents.

Demonstrated ability to function in a team-teaching role.

Ability to develop and/or adapt curriculum to be suitable for ELL students.

Ability to design linguistic supports to assist Els in accessing core content and curriculum.

Sensitivity to the diversity within ELL learner populations.

Knowledge of research and trends in teaching and learning styles as well as teaching and learning strategies to meet a wide range of student learning styles and abilities.

Ability to work productively with persons from various cultural, linguistic, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.

Ability to integrate EL strategies in other subject areas.
-
Ability and willingness to provide leadership in curriculum planning, integration and program development.

Ability to work effectively, cooperatively and collaboratively with staff, community and administration.

Excellent organizational, planning and leadership skills.
WORK SCHEDULE, PAY, AND BENEFITS
This is a 10-month position working 40 hours per week.
Pay range for this position is: $58, 584 - $113, 627
Maximum hiring step = step twenty (20)
