Job Title: OSP Field TechnicianJob Description
The OSP Field Technician is responsible for inspecting, measuring, and documenting utility poles and aerial infrastructure. Utilizing IKE devices and software, the technician captures precise field data for engineering, make-ready, and asset management. This role supports electric utilities, telecom providers, and engineering firms with accurate pole loading and attachment data collection.
Responsibilities-
Identify and document structural defects such as rot, cracks, leaning, and decay.

Record pole class, height, and species if applicable.

Document existing attachments including telecom, CATV, and power.

Capture field data including attachment heights, spacing, and clearances for ground, roadway, and communication/power separation.

Assess guying and anchoring conditions.

Collect high-resolution photos of poles and equipment.

Operate IKEGPS devices to measure pole and attachment heights using laser technology and capture GPS coordinates and asset location data.

Utilize IKE Office and IKE Insight software to upload and process field measurements and generate pole models and engineering-ready reports.

Ensure accurate data collection to support make-ready engineering, joint-use applications, and fiber deployment projects.

Document existing pole conditions for attachment applications and identify space available for new attachments, code violations, or clearance issues.

Support engineering teams by providing field-verified pole data and redlines and corrections to designs.
Essential Skills-
1–3+ years of experience in utility field work, telecom OSP, pole inspections, or using IKE devices or similar measurement tools.

Ability to interpret utility prints, pole loading diagrams, design, and civil maps.

Willingness to travel out of state Monday-Friday for multiple weeks in a row with weekends at home.

Ability to work long hours to maximize time at the project site.

Capability to drive long distances and work in all weather conditions.

Familiarity with utilities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications-
Ability to identify different telecom companies and power equipment attached to poles.
Work Environment
This position requires extensive travel to service Alliant poles, with the need to be semi-local to the Madison area. Standard working hours typically are 8-4, with the expectation of longer hours to maximize time at job sites. There is no weekend work required. The role involves 95% fieldwork, with office work in Madison when weather does not permit field activities. A company truck and fuel card are provided, with the vehicle picked up every morning in Madison. Technicians will travel between various towns in central Wisconsin and occasionally to Iowa for projects, returning home each night after day trips.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
