The company

As an independent company with no outside investors, we build top-grade homes at scale while maintaining an unwavering commitment to quality. Our dedication to craftsmanship has driven every one of the 1,000+ houses we've built. Role and responsibilities
The Cost Control Coordinator reports to the Director of Pre-Construction and serves as the centralized checkpoint for every Variance Purchase Order (VPO) submitted by field Project Leaders. This role replaces individual Area Production Manager review with a single point of accountability for approving, releasing, or rejecting VPOs, and for tracking down the root cause of recurring variance issues.
- VPO review and release – Review every VPO submitted by Project Leaders, validate that each qualifies as a true variance, confirm documentation and cost coding, and approve, release, or reject requests in Buildertrend.
- Root cause analysis – Track recurring VPO trends by plan, community, trade, or cost code, and determine whether the source is a Hub/Buildertrend setup issue or an estimating issue.
- Cross-team correction – Coordinate with Estimating to fix estimate-level errors and with Purchasing to correct Hub/PO template setup issues.
- Cross-functional coordination – Serve as the primary point of contact for Project Leaders on VPO questions, communicate with Area Production Managers on flagged or high-dollar variances, and report to Pre-Construction leadership on VPO volume, dollar impact, and approval trends.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Skills
- Experience with Buildertrend or comparable construction management software strongly preferred
- Understanding of residential construction cost coding, estimating, and purchase order workflows
- Strong attention to detail and comfort pushing back on requests that lack justification
- Ability to work cross-functionally with field, estimating, and purchasing teams without direct authority over those teams
- Analytical mindset, comfortable digging into why an issue keeps happening rather than just processing the transaction in front of them
