Job Overview
Humanity Media is a boutique website management agency looking for a hands-on Account Manager to be the human bridge between our clients and the work we do for them. This is a rare blend of role: part client relationship manager, part technical problem-solver. You'll be the primary point of contact for a portfolio of small businesses, nonprofits, and public agencies — understanding what each client actually needs, translating that into work, and making sure it gets done right.
We keep our clients' websites healthy, secure, and growing. That means you'll be comfortable talking with a nonprofit director about their goals in the morning and getting into a WordPress dashboard, a CSS tweak, or a hosting question in the afternoon. You don't need to be a senior engineer — but you do need to be genuinely comfortable around code and the mechanics of how websites live on the internet.
We're a small, growing operation, and we'll train the right person on all of our systems and workflows. What we can't train is curiosity, ownership, and the ability to make a client feel taken care of. If you have those, and the technical foundation to back them up, we want to talk.
What You'll Do
- Serve as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of clients — building trusting, long-term relationships through clear, proactive communication
- Understand each client's business goals and translate them into scoped website work, timelines, and priorities
- Coordinate and, where appropriate, execute website updates and maintenance — content changes, basic HTML/CSS/PHP edits, plugin updates, and WordPress administration
- Troubleshoot common website and hosting issues, or clearly escalate and coordinate the fix when it's beyond your scope
- Keep projects moving: track tasks, follow up, and make sure nothing falls through the cracks
- Help clients understand what's possible and guide them toward smart decisions for their site and budget
- Contribute to growing the business — spotting opportunities to expand a client relationship, improving how we work, and helping bring on new clients
- Communicate technical concepts to non-technical clients in plain, reassuring language
What We're Looking For
Technical foundation (required):
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and PHP — you can read it, edit it, and make confident basic changes
- Familiarity with WordPress — themes, plugins, the admin dashboard, content management
- Basic understanding of how web hosting works and how websites are set up, deployed, and kept running (domains, DNS, hosting environments, staging vs. live)
Client and business skills (required):
- Excellent written and verbal communication — you're clear, warm, and responsive
- Strong relationship-building instincts and a service mindset; clients feel looked after when they work with you
- An entrepreneurial streak — you take ownership, spot opportunities, and understand the realities and pressures small business owners face
- Comfort working directly with entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, and public-sector staff, and helping them understand their own needs
- Organized and self-directed; you can manage multiple accounts and priorities without being micromanaged
Logistics (required):
- Your own computer — a Mac / MacBook strongly preferred
- Reliable internet and the ability to work hybrid
Nice to have (a real plus):
- Familiarity with Claude and Claude Code — we lean on AI-assisted tooling in our workflow, and comfort here is a meaningful advantage
- Experience with hosting platforms (e.g., Kinsta, WP Engine, cPanel) and basic website security / malware remediation
- Exposure to project management tools (we use Asana), CRMs, or invoicing tools
- Any design sensibility, SEO familiarity, or experience working inside an agency
