POSITION: Grades 4 - 8 Science Teacher (Full Time)
REPORTS TO: Head of Upper School

JOB PURPOSE
Valley School’s science curriculum is aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards and has a heavy emphasis on authentic, hands-on, experiential learning opportunities both in the classroom and outdoors. Our program trains students to explore life with a keen eye, promotes critical thinking, and applies science to the development of health and environmental skills important to responsible and ethical decision-making. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic individual who has demonstrated a passion for science learning and content knowledge, has practiced using an inquiry-based approach, facilitates open-ended investigations, and has been involved in developing innovative science curricula.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach five to six middle school science classes with at least three preparations, along with grade-level advising.
- Develop and incorporate a health curriculum.
- Maintain an effective, safe, and well-organized lab/classroom.
- Demonstrate a growth mindset and commitment to professional growth as a science teacher and inquiry-based learning.
- Identify and respond to the individual student's learning differences and create enrichment opportunities: differentiate instruction to meet the needs of various learners.
- Participate collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the school and communicate in a manner that supports and promotes the Mission and Core Values of Valley School.
- Attend faculty and staff meetings and fulfill other faculty obligations.
- Participate in the life of the school, including scheduled extra duties, school-related conferences, training, committee work, and where possible, attending after-hours events that reflect a commitment to the success of the school and the development of the whole child.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Teaching certification in Middle-Level Science is preferred
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree
- 2+ years of teaching experience in a classroom setting
- Exhibits effective written and oral communication skills
- Passion for working and engaging with energetic 4th – 8th grade students
