Special Recreation Services, Inc., is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization and HCS provider serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities within the City of Houston and the surrounding metroplex. We are looking for dedicated professionals who are passionate about improving the quality of life for individuals with special needs. Our direct care staff live in a residential group home setting with 1-3 clients, helping them reach their full potential by developing valuable life skills and independence.
Position Description
Direct Care Staff
Direct Care Staff assists our consumers with essential daily tasks they may be unable to perform. These tasks include cooking, laundry, bathing, getting dressed, and cleaning. The direct care staff provides companionship to consumers and establishes a trusting relationship with them. They ensure consumers take their prescribed medication. Furthermore, they keep records of consumer activity, behavior, and moods. There are various direct care positions available and schedules differ depending on the position taken. Some positions are in the home setting and some in the community setting.
Responsibilities and Duties:
· Provide supervision and specific training activities that assist the consumers to acquire, maintain or improve skills related to activities of daily living in a community residential setting.
· Provide functional skills training to increase independence.
· Provides/supervises daily nutritional, health and hygiene care for all consumers assigned.
· Menu planning, grocery shopping, promotion of appropriate diet/nutrition plans, and meal preparation.
· Monitors consumers files to ensure they are maintained in the locations and kept up to date. Prepares written reports, including daily case notes and other documentation as assigned by supervisor.
· Assess the needs of each consumer; and communicate training needs and progress to respective inter-agency staff.
· Ensures that consumer's safety, well-being, and rights are protected.
· Ensures completion of daily documentation, including but not limited to fire drill reports, progress notes, cleaning checklists, incident reports, medication administration, and other documents as required.
· Maintains MRA’s, medical forms, daily and weekly notes, and training goals.
· Maintains cleanliness of entire residence at all times.
· Attends all required in-service training classes as needed and scheduled.
· Willing to adapt to new changes.
Qualifications and Requirements:
· Accredited high school diploma or GED required.
· Must have a current Texas State Driver’s License/ID or be able to obtain a Texas State Driver’s License/ID within 30 days of employment.
· Intermediate computer skills required (ability to navigate the internet, use email, and enter documentation as needed).
· Must be able to solve problems as they arise and respond appropriately. Ideally, we are seeking a person who is patient, flexible and creative in working with individual consumers and family members.
· Other duties as assigned to achieve agency goals.
Work Environment
The Work environment depends on the position assigned. Some are in the residential and some in the community setting.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to implement CPI, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
· Ability to stand on feet 2-3 hours at a time
· Stooping, bending, lifting, carrying, kneeling pushing, and pulling may be required in some positions.
· Must be able to handle stressful situations.

Annual Salary Rate: $23,000 $32,000
Shifts Available: various shifts available part time and full time
