Construction Manager
Position Summary
The Construction Manager supports the structural engineering team by coordinating construction-phase activities and applying practical construction experience to the review of structural documents, field observations, and renovation assessments. This role serves as a key liaison between design and construction, ensuring that structural solutions are buildable, accurately executed in the field, and well-documented throughout Construction Administration.
Key Responsibilities:
Constructability Review
- Review structural drawings and details from a constructability and sequencing perspective.
- Identify potential conflicts, installation challenges, access constraints, and coordination issues during the design phase.
- Provide clear, practical feedback to structural engineers to improve constructability and reduce construction-phase issues.
Construction Observations
- Perform construction observations at appropriate project milestones to review general conformance with the structural documents.
- Document observed conditions through written notes and photographs.
- Prepare clear and concise construction observation reports in accordance with firm standards.
Existing Conditions & Renovation Coordination
- Conduct initial site visits for renovation and retrofit projects.
- Document existing structural conditions using photographs, notes, and sketches.
- Assist in identifying potential construction constraints, existing deficiencies, and risks that may impact design and construction.
- Participate in discussions with architects, clients, and consultants regarding existing conditions and potential project challenges.
Construction Administration Coordination
- Logging, tracking, and assisting with review of shop drawings, submittals, and product data.
- Assisting the project team with structural RFIs and field inquiries.
- Helping evaluate proposed field changes for constructability and coordination impacts.
- Serve as a point of contact between the structural engineering team and project stakeholders during construction.
- Maintain organized records of CA correspondence, reports, and site documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Prior experience in construction or construction-related roles with exposure to structural systems.
- Strong understanding of construction means and methods.
- Ability to read and understand structural and architectural drawings.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Comfort working on active construction sites and interacting with contractors and trades.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with or alongside a structural engineering firm.
- Familiarity with renovation, retrofit, or existing-building projects.
- Proficiency with construction documentation and CA tools (e.g., Bluebeam, Procore, Viewpoint).
- Background in construction management, engineering, or a related field.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or similar technical credentials are a plus but not required.
Reporting & Collaboration
- Reports to Principal Engineer.
- Works closely with Operations Manager, structural engineers, architects, contractors, and clients throughout the construction process.
Work Environment
- Combination of office-based coordination and regular site visits.
- Local or regional travel to construction sites required.
Pay: $67,837.98 - $81,697.35 per year
