Responsibilities
- Safely operate a range of heavy-duty trucks such as tractor-trailers, flatbeds, dump trucks, to transport equipment and freight.
- Load and unload heavy machinery and freight using appropriate tools like forklifts or manual techniques while adhering to safety protocols.
- Plan efficient routes for delivery or pickup, ensuring timely arrivals while complying with all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Secure loads properly to prevent shifting or damage during transit; perform routine inspections of the vehicle before and after trips.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, pickups, mileage logs, inspection reports, and route documentation.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding schedule updates, route changes, or issues encountered on the road.
- Assist with routine vehicle maintenance checks and report any mechanical issues promptly to ensure optimal operation.
Experience
- Prior experience driving commercial vehicles such as tractor-trailers or flatbed trucks is essential; delivery driver experience is highly valued.
- Demonstrated ability to operate manual transmission trucks safely and efficiently.
- Familiarity with specialized trailers including refrigerated trailers for temperature-sensitive freight or tankers for liquid transport.
- Experience loading/unloading freight using forklifts or other equipment; knowledge of load securing techniques is preferred.
- Proven track record of route driving with an emphasis on safety, punctuality, and customer service in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements relevant to the types of vehicles operated (e.g., tanker endorsement).
- Additional certifications such as forklift operation or dump truck/roll-off truck licenses are advantageous but not mandatory.
