AAU (Travel) BASKETBALL COACH — Job Description
Position: Team Coach (Head or Assistant, as assigned)
Reports To: Trinity Legacy Basketball Leadership
Status: Volunteer or Paid Stipend (per team assignment)
Organization Overview
Trinity Legacy Basketball develops student-athletes through competitive AAU basketball built on the organization's core values of Faith, Community, Discipline, and Character. Coaches are entrusted with the development, safety, and well-being of every athlete in the program. Athletes age 7 – 17; Girls & Boys.
Position Summary
The Coach is responsible for the daily direction of an assigned team, including practice planning, game coaching, player development, and communication with players and parents. The Coach serves as a role model on and off the court and is expected to actively teach and model Trinity Legacy's core values throughout the season.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and run practices that build fundamentals, teamwork, and competitive readiness.
- Coach games and manage rosters, rotations, and in-game strategy.
- Determine playing time based on effort, attendance, attitude, skill development, team needs, game situations, and adherence to core values.
- Proactively communicate with parents and players about any significant or ongoing reduction in playing time.
- Conduct player evaluations at designated points in the season covering athletic development, effort, coachability, character, and discipline.
- Lead or facilitate prayer with the team before practices and games, and actively teach and model the organization's Faith, Community, Discipline, and Character values.
- Serve as a positive role model, educator, and mentor to athletes on and off the court.
- Be present, prepared, and on time for all scheduled practices, games, meetings, and team events.
- Demonstrate respect and professionalism toward athletes, officials, opposing coaches, and parents at all times.
Qualifications
- Prior playing or coaching experience in basketball preferred.
- Strong communication skills with athletes, parents, and staff.
- Ability to pass a background check and complete any required safety/youth-protection training.
- Alignment with and willingness to model Trinity Legacy's core values of Faith, Community, Discipline, and Character.
- Reliable transportation to practices, games, and tournaments.
Commitment & Compensation
This position may be filled as a volunteer role or a seasonal stipend role, as designated for the assigned team. Stipend amounts, where applicable, are provided at the time of offer. The commitment runs the full competitive/travel season schedule September - July, including practices, league games, and tournaments.
