The Massachusetts Association of Community Health Workers (MACHW) is the professional association of Community Health Workers (CHWs) in Massachusetts dedicated to strengthening the workforce by creating and/or advocating for legislation and other policies that support the profession; advocating for recognition, integration, and fair compensation within the health and social service fields; and creating and supporting professional development opportunities for CHWs in the state and nationally. Under the guidance of an Advisory Board, MACHW works tirelessly on behalf of the estimated 6,000-plus CHWs in the state. MACHW was created in 2000 by a dedicated group of CHWs. In 2017, MACHW became fiscally sponsored by Health Resource in Action, Inc. (HRiA), to ensure sustainability and increase efficiency.
Position
MACHW is seeking a full-time Senior Manager of Training and Member Services to lead key professional development, member engagement, and regional hub strategies for Community Health Workers across Massachusetts.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced trainer, facilitator, program manager, and relationship-builder to support the growth, connection, and leadership of the CHW workforce. The Senior Manager will oversee MACHW’s statewide training portfolio and manage MACHW’s regional CHW Hubs, including quarterly gatherings, local advisory structures, regional member engagement, and annual workforce celebration efforts.
The ideal candidate has strong experience developing and delivering culturally responsive training for adult learners, understands the CHW workforce and scope of practice, and is skilled at building trusted relationships with CHWs, supervisors, employers, trainers, partners, and regional stakeholders. Experience as a CHW, CHW supervisor, trainer, or someone who has worked closely with CHWs is strongly preferred.
The Senior Manager will devote approximately 50% of their time to training and professional development and 50% of their time to CHW Hubs, member services, and engagement.
This position is remote; however, regular travel across Massachusetts will be required, approximately two to three times per week depending on program needs. Some evening or weekend work may be required for trainings, hub gatherings, statewide events, certification office hours, or member engagement activities.

Training and Professional Development

The Senior Manager will lead the development, coordination, and delivery of MACHW’s training and professional development opportunities for CHWs and CHW supervisors.

Design, coordinate, and deliver culturally responsive training programs for CHWs, CHW supervisors, and CHW employers.
-
Develop training curricula, instructional materials, toolkits, and learning resources aligned with adult learning principles and CHW core competencies.
-
Oversee MACHW’s training calendar, including virtual trainings, in-person workshops, career development sessions, CHW leadership learning communities, and other professional development opportunities.

Coordinate trainers, subject matter experts, consultants, and partners involved in training design and delivery.
-
Recruit, onboard, and manage trainers and training consultants, including supporting contracts, scopes of work, deliverables, and performance expectations.

Conduct annual training needs assessments and use findings to inform future training topics, formats, and priorities.

Host one-hour CHW Certification Office Hours to support CHWs with certification and recertification questions, navigation of requirements, resources, and next steps.

Manage registration, attendance, evaluations, certificates, and continuing education unit processes for MACHW trainings and certification-related support sessions.

Track and analyze training data, including participation, demographics, evaluation results, learning outcomes, and funder-required metrics.

Serve as a liaison to CHW certification-related partners, training centers, and other professional development stakeholders.

Ensure all training content reflects MACHW’s commitment to racial equity, health equity, accessibility, cultural responsiveness, and the lived expertise of CHWs.
CHW Hubs and Member Services

The Senior Manager will oversee MACHW’s regional CHW Hubs and related member engagement strategies. The CHW Hubs are designed to strengthen peer connection, regional collaboration, professional development, and local leadership among CHWs across Massachusetts.

Manage the operations of MACHW’s regional CHW Hubs across the state.
-
Plan, coordinate, and evaluate quarterly CHW Hub gatherings in partnership with local partners, advisory groups, and CHW leaders.
-
Supervise and support the CHW Hub Coordinator in carrying out hub logistics, scheduling, registration, attendance tracking, follow-up communication, materials preparation, and data entry.
-
Support the development and engagement of local hub advisory boards or planning groups.
-
Build and maintain strong relationships with CHWs, CHW supervisors, employers, local public health partners, community-based organizations, health systems, and other regional stakeholders.

Attend CHW-related events, regional meetings, partner gatherings, training, conferences, and community events to engage members, strengthen relationships, promote MACHW offerings, and better understand the needs of CHWs across the state.

Identify regional workforce needs, local training priorities, emerging issues, and opportunities for collaboration across hubs.

Recruit local trainers, speakers, facilitators, and partners to support hub gatherings and regional professional development.

Manage hub-related data, including attendance, evaluations, demographics, membership engagement, regional trends, and outcomes.

Support ongoing communication and engagement with hub participants between quarterly gatherings.

Develop strategies to ensure hubs are accessible, responsive, and reflective of the needs of CHWs in each region.

The Senior Manager will manage communications and outreach directly related to MACHW training, CHW Hubs, CHW Certification Office Hours, CHW Week activities, and other member services offerings within their portfolio.

Create and manage registration forms for trainings, hub gatherings, CHW Certification Office Hours, CHW Week events, and other member services offerings.

Develop flyers, event descriptions, calendar listings, and promotional materials for trainings, hub gatherings, certification support sessions, and related programs.

Coordinate reminder emails, confirmation emails, follow-up communications, evaluation links, and certificate or CEU-related communications for participants.

Maintain accurate registration, attendance, and evaluation records for all trainings, hub gatherings, and certification office hour sessions.

Work with MACHW communications staff or designated team members to promote offerings through the website, newsletter, social media, and other organizational channels.

Ensure all program materials are clear, accessible, inclusive, and aligned with MACHW’s values, voice, and visual identity.

Support targeted outreach to members, partners, employers, and regional stakeholders to increase participation in trainings, hub gatherings, and certification-related support.

This role manages outreach and registration for training, hub gatherings, CHW Certification Office Hours, and other member services. Organization-wide communications, website management, social media strategy, and general newsletters are handled separately; this role contributes content and coordination as needed.
CHW Week, Conference Support, and Statewide Member Engagement

The Senior Manager will support statewide member engagement through signature events, celebrations, and workforce recognition activities.

Lead planning and coordination for annual CHW Week activities, including regional celebrations, program-specific communications, employer engagement, awards or recognition efforts, and governmental proclamations.

Serve as MACHW’s liaison to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for planning related to the annual CHW Conference.

Support member engagement activities that strengthen MACHW’s visibility, responsiveness, and connection to CHWs across the state.

Represent MACHW at relevant statewide, regional, and community events to promote membership, build relationships, and elevate CHW voices.

Gather feedback from CHWs and partners to inform future trainings, hub gatherings, certification support, member services, and professional development offerings.

The Senior Manager will manage staff, consultants, workplans, deliverables, and funder requirements connected to the training and member services portfolio.

Supervise and manage the CHW Hub Coordinator and other assigned staff, consultants, trainers, or contractors.

Candidate Qualifications

Strong candidates will bring a combination of the following qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and at least six years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and lived/professional experience. Master’s degree preferred.

Experience designing, coordinating, and delivering culturally responsive training programs for adult learners.

Experience facilitating workshops, learning communities, professional development sessions, office hours, or peer learning spaces.

Experience working with CHWs, CHW supervisors, CHW programs, community-based organizations, local public health, health systems, or related workforce development initiatives.

Experience as a CHW, CHW supervisor, trainer, or someone who has worked closely with CHWs is strongly preferred.

Demonstrated understanding of CHW roles, scope of practice, core competencies, certification, recertification, workforce challenges, and the importance of lived experience.
