Position Summary
The Project Manager is a mid-level project management role responsible for independently coordinating and executing preservation, structural, and mechanical work items under minimal supervision on Navy submarines.
The PM oversees day-to-day production activities, ensures contract compliance, manages small-to-medium Task Orders, and provides leadership to supervisors, foremen, and trade personnel on Navy submarines.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Independently plan and execute assigned preservation and repair work items.
- Develop project schedules, manpower plans, and daily/weekly reporting.
- Lead daily production meetings and coordinate with NNSY Ship Superintendents.
- Review TWDs, drawings, and NAVSEA Standard Items to ensure proper execution.
- Manage subcontractor activities, monitor performance, and verify deliverables.
- Track cost, schedule progress, and material usage; identify variances.
- Prepare and submit Condition Found Reports (CFRs) and change-order requests.
- Ensure QA documentation, test reports, and completion packages are accurate and timely.
- Support safety enforcement and conduct routine site inspections.
- Mentor Project Manager I personnel and support professional development.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Working knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items, NSTM chapters, and ship-repair processes.
- Must have work experience working on Navy submarines.
- Ability to develop schedules and manage budgets with minimal oversight.
- Strong communication and leadership capability in a shipyard environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, and production reporting tools.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and resolve emergent production issues.
Training and Certification Requirements
- OSHA 30 (preferred).
- AMP safety and operational training.
Security and Access Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and pass all background, drug, and security checks.
- Must possess or obtain Secret Clearance.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
- Minimum four (4) years of shipyard, industrial, or DoD project experience.
- Prior supervisory or team-lead experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in shipboard, industrial, and office environments.
- Must be capable of climbing ladders, entering confined spaces, and conducting shipboard inspections.
- Must wear required PPE (hard hat, FR clothing, safety shoes, gloves, eye / ear protection, and harness when applicable).
- Must maintain fitness for duty and respirator qualification if required.
