Cheltenham School District announces the following extra duty-extra pay position is available for the 2026-2027 school-year, at Cheltenham High School:
Musical: Stage Director
Responsibilities

In collaboration with Producer, Music Director, and Choreographer:

Develop and implement the overall vision for the show, including interpretations of dramatic arc, characterization, and movement;

help students put that vision into action through a well-planned, tightly-paced, organized, positive, professional, and educational rehearsal process.

Block/stage scenes and musical numbers, working with other staff as appropriate regarding staging elements and transitions between scenes.

Coach student performers on character, movement, motivation, and acting technique directly related to their work in the show.

Encourage students to take ownership of their work. Communicate high standards while helping students develop professional and high-school level acting and performance techniques.

Prepare thoroughly for all rehearsals, such that rehearsals make the most of allotted time while helping students grow more secure, confident, and skilled as performers.

Communicate regularly with production team about artistic decisions and plans

Help plan rehearsal schedule, in collaboration with Producer, Music Director, and Choreographer. Regularly communicate with the production team about rehearsal planning and preparation, and make adjustments as needed.

Assist the student stage managers, as needed, with managerial tasks such as tracking entrances and exits and props and generally helping rehearsals run smoothly. Collaborate with student crew members and Crew Advisor.

Act as an exemplary leader and professional mentor for student performers.
Anticipated Work Schedule

2 Pre-production meetings, times and days TBD.

Attend auditions and callbacks 3 days during the week of 11/30-12/4, 2:40-5:30

Attend production meetings once a month, times and days TBD.

Direct rehearsals 2 days/week, 2 weekend rehearsals, plus production week, performances (3/11-13), and strike (3/15)
