MEA Forensic Engineers & Scientists is seeking an individual to assess the biomechanics of events that lead to injuries, and to evaluate the causal link between specific incidents and specific injuries.
The position is onsite in our Orange County, California office and the salary range is $80,000 to $125,000 depending on experience and qualifications. We contribute $1000 per month towards healthcare plan premiums (medical, dental, vision) and offer a safe harbor 401(k) plan. Starting vacation is 3 weeks (accrued annually) and we observe 12 paid holidays per year.
- Analyze the injury biomechanics and causal factors in cases involving slips, trips, and falls on stairways and walkway surfaces; motor vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian impacts; sports and workplace accidents; consumer product failures; and assaults and firearm-related incidents.
- Gather field data and inspect locations associated with injury events (e.g., stairs, walkways, amusement rides, damaged vehicle interiors).
- Review supporting documents including video, medical records, witness statements, traffic collision reports, and deposition transcripts.
- Review and apply findings from the scientific literature.
- Document scientific findings and conclusions.
- Undergraduate engineering degree.
- Graduate degree in biomechanics or a related discipline.
- Strong verbal and written communication, including the ability to clearly and concisely explain complex issues in lay language.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- High ethical and technical standards.
- A keen interest in solving detailed and challenging problems.
- Ability to obtain a Professional Engineer license in California.
- Research and testing experience related to human gait biomechanics.
- Research or testing experience with human volunteers, biological tissues, or crash test dummies.
- Scientific publications that demonstrate your ability to pose and answer technical questions.
- 3+ years of engineering experience, ideally in the field of injury biomechanics.
Individuals with less work experience but outstanding academic performance are also encouraged to apply.
