Position Summary
As a Ferrous Scale Operator, you will be the first point of contact for customers and truck drivers entering our facility. You will play a critical role in accurately weighing incoming ferrous materials, processing transactions, providing excellent customer service, and helping keep operations running smoothly and safely.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet customers and truck drivers in a friendly, professional manner as they enter the yard.
- Provide clear instructions on where and how to unload materials.
- Operate the ferrous scale to accurately weigh incoming metal loads.
- Record weights, input data into our system, and issue scale tickets efficiently.
- Handle customer inquiries, payments, and occasional complaints professionally.
- Ensure all transactions are processed correctly and documented.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized scale and customer area.
- Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Work collaboratively with yard staff and supervisors to support overall operations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in scale operations, weighmaster duties, customer service, or a scrap/recycling environment is strongly preferred.
- Strong mathematical skills and proficiency with computers/systems for data entry.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Physically capable of standing for long periods and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-minded with a strong work ethic.
