JOB TITLE: Child Nutrition Worker
REPORTS TO: Child Nutrition Program Director & Child Nutrition Manager
FLSA : Non-Exempt
POTENTIAL LOCATION: Barbour County Elementary School (Pre-K - 6), Louisville, AL
CONTRACT PERIOD: 9-month / 187 days
SALARY SCHEDULE: Based on Board Approved Salary Matrix
JOB GOALS:
- To effectively implement local school and Federal guidelines for Child Nutrition Program (CNP).
- To provide healthy, nutritious meals and food preparation services for students, staff, visitors, and community members of Barbour County Schools.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Possess and maintains a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure.
- Ability to operate and maintain kitchen equipment is necessary for performance of job responsibilities.
- Ability to carry out verbal and written instructions and demonstrate effective people skills.
- Ability to follow Child Nutrition Program guidelines and regulations per Federal and State.
- Ability to use technology as required to perform job responsibilities.
- Strength, stamina, agility, dexterity, and acuity to perform job responsibilities safely and effectively.
- Ability, agility, and stamina to engage in prolonged standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, turning, reaching, and repetitively lifting 30 pounds.
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
- Alternative qualifications as the Board may require.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in preparation and service of food according to the written menu of the day and supervisor’s/manager’s instruction.
- Performs food storage; inventory control; equipment cleaning, assembly, and disassembly; and related serving and sanitation tasks as assigned.
- Performs duties in a courteous and professional manner.
- Operates food service equipment in accordance with established procedures.
- Serves in job rotation or assists in any CNP activities as assigned including, but not limited to, cashier, server, backup, dish machine operator, food preparation, and cleanup of kitchen, dining area, storage areas, or work area.
- Maintains professional dress and hygiene, suitable for food service work (uniform, hairnet/hat, closed-toe shoe with non-skid sole, etc.).
- Observes proper safety precautions in the kitchen and other work areas.
- Cooperates with other school system staff members in maintaining high standards in the child nutrition program.
- Follows written and verbal instructions and communicates effectively with others (CNP staff, vendors, school staff, students, parents, community members) by Professional standards as outlined by the USDA and State CNP department.
- Participates in and promotes in-service training, conferences, and continuing educational programs for self-improvement and for other personnel.
- Engages in professional growth, demonstrates professional ethics, and effective work habits.
- Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
- Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
- Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.
- Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns, and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
- Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
- Properly uses and cares for tools, equipment, and material resources of the school system.
- Serves on school/system committees as required or appropriate.
- Uses effective collaboration skills to work as an effective team member.
- Demonstrates support for the school system and its goals and priorities.
- Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
- Reports absences and take leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned by principal and/or supervisor.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands to finger, to handle, or feel objects, equipment, or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, squat, and crouch and kneel. The employee must occasionally lift, push, pull carry and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
