POSITION: Optician Assistant

JOB SUMMARY: This individual is responsible for assisting Licensed Optician and Director of Refractive Services. Actively being trained on selling frames, lenses and contact lenses to patients
Education & Experience
- 0-1 year of experience in optical department.
- General knowledge of frame adjustment/repairs.
- Learn to select frames and lenses.
- Basic medical and ophthalmic terminology.
- Ability to learn or have experience entering charges and payments into computer.
- Ability to learn or have knowledge of insurance and spectacle reimbursement.
- Ability to learn contact lens pricing and ordering.

Primary ResponsibilitiesAny and all duties assigned by management with an emphasis on the following:
- Interpret prescription so appropriate lens and frame combination is chosen, which will ensure satisfaction of patient cosmetically.
- Fit, fill and adapt prescription received by doctor to meet patients visual needs.
- Verify and submit vision insurance claims for exams and materials.
- Process jobs from patient to lab. Upon receipt, check for accuracy and finish processing job if tint or U.V. 400 filtration is needed.
- Process and ship jobs to lab and various other destinations via mail carriers.
- Keep track of optical receipts daily. Attach invoices received from vendors to half sheet of NELC optical carbon copied paper.
- Help accounts payable reconcile billing statements against invoices received.
- Check frame boards every morning and evening to see if new frames need to be added.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how to checkout an optical patient, complete a superbill, collect patient money and complete all necessary paperwork accurately and on time.
- Answer phone calls and emails relating to optical.
- Demonstrate an understanding of all optical equipment in the office.
- Perform other job-related duties as required.
Physical Abilities
- Must be able to walk, sit and/or stand for eight hours.
