Our telecom client is looking for Telecom Decommissioning Technician (Contract)
Location: Field-based | Travel Required
We are seeking an experienced Site Exit/Telecom Decommissioning Technicians to support the removal, grooming, and decommissioning of telecommunications infrastructure across central office and remote sites.
This is a hands-on field role working with fiber, copper, and coax networks, ensuring safe site exits, accurate asset tracking, and restoration to contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Decommission telecom equipment and infrastructure
- Perform circuit grooming and validate live traffic paths
- Use CLI to access and manage network equipment
- Remove fiber, copper, and coax cabling and hardware
- Coordinate disconnects with Network Operations
- Execute safe shutdown procedures
- Test fiber using OTDRs and power meters
- Complete site audits, photos, and exit documentation
- Track, tag, and manage removed equipment and assets
- Coordinate site access with landlords and building managers
Required Skills & Experience
- Familiarity with DACs and edge equipment (DSX Panels et)
- Familiar with working in a CO environment
- Travel, Working alone – Maintenance windows 10pm-5am
- Familiar with performing HotCuts from documentation workbook
- Conduct site readiness and baseline assessments
- Prepare sites for migration, including required pre-wiring
- Familiar with audit to physically trace all active circuits between equipment
- Able to conduct Circuit test to verify traffic passing on new path
- Identification Cabling (Cat5e, copper, coaxial, single-mode and multi-mode fiber)
- Working with the NOC / Tier III
- Measure and record power (AMP Readings) utilization before and after migration Rack measured ( Clamp )
- power down experience DACS equipment
- Lap top Plug in serial ports working in Putty type system or an interface on equipment for commands (Alarms , x-connect removal)
Schedule Requirements
- Work in confined spaces and overhead positions
- Variable hours; overtime/weekends may be required
- Travel required; overnight stays possible
Preferred
- DACS experience, EDGE, SONET ideal, performing Hot Cuts etc
- Multi-carrier experience (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Lumen)
- Asset recovery and inventory management experience
