Responsibilities of the Procurement Legal Advisor:
Responsibilities for the Procurement Legal Advisor within the Key Procurement Department include understanding and negotiating standard procurement agreements; providing advice on regulatory compliance and legal requirements applicable to procurement contracts; and participating in procurement negotiations. The role ensures that desired business and legal terms and conditions are accurately captured in each agreement and that contracts appropriately reflect Key’s risk tolerances. This position works closely with internal risk partners and internal clients to ensure business and regulatory requirements are met and provides legal counsel primarily to procurement strategists.
Success Criteria:
Success in this role includes the ability to effectively negotiate a high volume of agreements and efficiently manage the standard procurement agreement process. The Procurement Legal Advisor works collaboratively with KeyCorp risk groups and lines of business to assess business needs and associated risks and ensures that all procurement contracts comply with applicable laws and regulations.
Act as knowledgeable business partner by providing competent and effective legal advice and support.

Provide procurement legal contract support for assigned clients with focus on obtaining business objectives while adequately addressing associated risks

Perform legal research involving procurement issues

Provide prompt legal counsel primarily to associate procurement strategists

Client requests receive timely and collegial responses providing final resolution or an acceptable date for completion/delivery.

Workload for diverse client base, including diverse requests, is organized and prioritized in accordance with reasonable delivery dates.

Effectively draft and negotiate contracts

Participate in the contract negotiation process

Identify and perform critical analysis of significant legal issues involving the procurement of goods and/or services

Work with other legal professionals, including those in the Key Law Group and outside counsel

Identify and effectively manage risk

Identify risk issues and integrate the appropriate language into the agreement to mitigate such risk

Collaborate with compliance and risk groups to identify, assess, and mitigate risk

Elevate critical risk issues to line of business senior management as appropriate

Keep informed of latest legal and regulatory trends.

Education
-
Bachelor’s Degree, and Juris Doctorate

License to practice law and in good standing
Work Experience

3+ years of relevant experience

Proficient in researching, drafting, and negotiating legal agreements

Good written and communication skills

Ability to work independently

Ability to understand and work within the business, compliance, and regulatory environment associated with procurement and the financial services industry

Ability to develop technical, legal, and business knowledge in relevant areas, and willingness to develop cross-functional knowledge

Ability to organize information, recommend solutions, communicate, and collaborate with legal and business professionals

Knowledge of financial services industry and regulatory environment (preferred)

Knowledge of commercial law and procurement/supply chain processes (preferred)

Ability to work in a fast paced environment (preferred)

Attendance at continuing legal education seminars and professional forums that provide timely information on developments in the industry (preferred)

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $71,000.00 - $125,000.00 annually. Placement within the pay range may differ based upon various factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and geographic location. Compensation for this role also includes eligibility for incentive compensation which may include production, commission, and/or discretionary incentives.
