Pivot Ministries has helped men struggling with substance abuse disorder since 1970. We are seeking a bi-lingual addiction counselor for day, evening or weekend shifts at our Bridgeport campus.
Men stay with us for up to nine months at our 54-bed campus, where they take part in our Spiritual Recovery Program including bible study, education in relapse prevention, life skills, 12 step groups and clinical counseling. They receive vocational guidance and help in finding employment and can stay an additional nine months in our Reentry House while working externally.
Certified/licensed counselors bilingual in English and Spanish with at least 3 years of addiction counseling experience, including working in a Christian setting, are encouraged to apply. Ability to speak Portuguese would be an advantage.
Role Objective
To contribute to Pivot’s mission of returning previously addicted men to their family usefully whole by providing professional clinical counseling as part of a holistic treatment program for substance use disorder.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psycho-social assessments of clients' mental health and substance abuse history.
- Develop and implement individual treatment plans using evidence-based therapeutic approaches.
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions, addressing psychological, relational, and spiritual issues.
- · Collaborate with pastoral and other staff to provide a cohesive approach to treatment.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions that incorporate both clinical and spiritual elements.
- Assist clients in developing coping strategies, relapse prevention plans, and life skills.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records and documentation.
- Participate in treatment team meetings and case conferences.
- Provide family counseling and education when appropriate.
Qualifications
- Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC)
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in substance abuse counseling, preferably in a residential setting.
- Strong understanding of addiction treatment modalities and 12-step programs.
- Familiarity with the spiritual aspects of addiction recovery and experience of working in a Christian setting.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and dual diagnosis treatment.
Required Skills
- Bi-lingual in English and Spanish. Ability to also be able to communicate in Portuguese an advantage.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in conducting clinical assessments and developing treatment plans.
- Strong therapeutic skills with individuals and groups.
- Experience with cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and other evidence-based practices.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
Pay: $40.00 per hour
